tote doubles-whats going on?

i have been looking at tote doubles recently and have noticed a massive lower discrepancy between the fixed odd double and the tote double.

for instance today at the vaal.. race 7: 10 Right To Tango into race 8: 10 Due And Payable tote double pays 33.6

at SP the double would work out to 16/1 into 10/1 = 187/1.

Is this an indication that the game is just rigged ?

We have discussed many times and playing an ATC via a tote system is not clever the more legs and winning tickets you have are reducing your own odds
So simple answer don't use the tote for an ATC

I was not refering to ATC .. i was refering to the tote double.. i learnt about the all to come bet the hard way.... many times

i once had 25k going into places into a duncan howell horse to place.. i took a 4 horse all to come and accidentally added a massive outsider to win instead of place.. duncans horse was 25/1 and was less than R1 to place.. ended up tote favourite to place and didnt hit the board..

Understand but same principle the bigger your bet the more winning tickets progressing to the next leg on your selection

Solution. Dont play the tote.

A cynical view of making all bets more difficult to catch diverts attention away from the basics.................It is easy to compare a 33/1 vs 187/1 double and realise the lack of value,however if a PA,Jpot or P6 pays R33000 there is nothing to compare with so nobody questions whether it should have been R187000.............if you see the point

There is NEVER value on the tote but it is only on some bets that you can measure it!

(Bare in mind a "big" payout is not necessarily a "value" payout)

It is inevitable that tote betting on racing will battle to survive against any form of sports betting unless the takeout model is completely revised.......no other sport expects the punter to fund the prize money!!!

Please remember that the take out on all exotic bets on TAB pools is 20/25 percent so with the pools being so low it doesnt pay you to take more than maybe 20 times or else you are killing your own payout..

Excellent point, a lot of the time when i catch a pa that pays a lousy 15 bucks.. i kick myself for not taking an all on place with all those horses... dividends are chalk and cheese..

is that a fact ? how do they get away with taking so much? its not justifiable... compare it to the 6% taken by our bookies paid only on winnings.. this is taken from the top..

Can one look at it this way - lets say the gross p6 pool is R 1m - say tax is 25% and favourites win so R 750 000 is returned to the punters - punters than top up their investments in the next meeting and the gross pool is again R 1m - favourites again win so R 750 000 is returned to the punters -after 4 exchanges the original million has gone in taxes - theoretically anyway - so the "taxman" is theoretically the only winner of course unless there is a reasonable payout and the punter holds onto the dosh.

would you rather catch it once with A N Other...or would you have it 9x and A N Other 1x....still the same pool....?
