Calling the Merit Rating experts
11 years 10 months ago
Please Guys we need some expert advice!,,
Two Gun Kid came to PE as an average MR 75 2 time winner. He was given the full 8 points after the first win and now another 8 points after his 2nd win which takes him to a 91MR and thus above the bench mark for the handicap races. This after only 3 runs.
When we query this and ask questions of the handicapper the following are the answers from Lenon Maharaj...
1 The line horse is Queens Club......coming from CT and 156 day rest off a MR74!!!!!
2 if they use the horse that ran 2nd, Jupiter Symphony, then they would have given us 14points which they can't do. With no disrespect to him, the horse has not won on grass before!!!!!!
Can Two Gun Kid run in CT or Jhb off a MR91 and hold his own???
He has now basically "lost " 2 winning chances and can only run in Pinnacle races (under sufferance) or features ???
What are your opinions??

Shams
This is how i really see it. You guys are doing something special/ different either way its working. Myself and a few lads absolutely got the lot and that was before your comments regarding tgk. I think its time you all start raiding because i know you will hold your own.
Btw your wining time of 114 and change was again quite good.
On his last 2 wins for sure he is a 91 and with scopevto increase

am not clued up like R Foux or Jackdash to name just two , in my opinion he could have got penalised a lot more for winning as he did in both his starts .
It would have maybe been better to go for a novice plate when he arrived in pe , then go on to handicap races . That way you could have got an extra win before going into handicaps .
It looks like you have no option but to go for those pinnacles and the higher mr races . He does seem a better horse in the soft so perhaps it would not be a bad idea to raid cape town with him .
All the best with him and all your string !

Shams, he was my best bet and banker as i posted on Monday, and was grateful for your confirmation.
Let me say I rate differently to the official as I use some personal data that is personal and I don't have to justify like those poor handicappers.
Personally I have him rated a ??95( I could not be sure of a yardstick-def not sand form and not sure about Queens club)
Whatever happens you have a lot to be proud of......how many stables improve a DeKock horse that much....take a bow.

We have had some expert advice ...
If you take Silverano ad the line horse 2GK beat him by app 6 lengths first time, then went up 4kgs (8 pts), then beat him again by 6 lengths so handicapper not to far off.
Have to live with it and work around.
Always ready to learn in this game.

To Shams Racing
IMO the MR system is a shambles, not because of the Principals of the system but its application in RSA..

Does anyone know how they distinguish the line horse?
I didn't choose the #puntlife, the #puntlife chose me!

Funny ,but my rating is based on Silverano as the line!!!
It was the nearest I could come to a yardstick!!
