@Umlilo

Why you choose to compare the devastation caused by Fireworks with Starting Stalls opening, Hi Tech Sound systems,factories, mining, trucks that roar on the highways at night etc etc is beyond me ?? As for the bombs (suicide or other) that ravage many countries there has been and remains to be many many protests demanding that this barbaric slaughter desists but these protests continue to fall on deaf ears, unlike the Bangs that we selfishly continue to punish innocent animals with, both domestic and wildlife...
Give everything but up!

@ Umlilo - Please read the article from the Benoni News and then answer : Why is it only on days like Guy Fawkes and Newyear etc that the NSPCA has so many problems with animals lost or hurt by fireworks? This is not a debate - either you sign the petition or you don't - To try to trash it has no place here

@Mr Hawai:

'This is not a debate - either you sign the petition or you don't - To try to trash it has no place here'

I am nowhere trashing the petition. I am also on record on another thread about loud fireworks; your reaction is not jsutified within the context.

Besides, why cannot the subject (or anyother that hurts one's sensitivities) be debated?

What are the figures of animals being abused daily in realtion to what occurs once a year?

For that matter (to be direct to our interests); what is the extent of abuse of horses in training?

Not only have I heard of some alarming training practices (blanket over the head and the animal whipped into submission or until it collapses, etc!), I personally witnessed a leading former trainer who would viciously punch (he was stockily built) a horse that refused to jump from / go through the starting gates.

So, what we don't see and hear is OK? Or, rather, don't want to hear?

I have not indicated my support for fireworks (bangs); my not signing does not mean I accept it also!

really now we all know the problems about cruelty to horses and there is the NHRA to police that - If you feel so strongly start your own petition about that or noise pollution or abuse to horses- What bombs in far off countries have to do with local firework abuse is beyond me - Titch started something good so either sign or don't but don't try to bring this superb cause into disrepute because of some other agendas

If you want to object or petition...go ahead...you appear bitter about someone else's initiative...or perhaps very philosophical?

Once a year? Guy Fawkes, New Year, Xmas , Easter , Little Jenny's birthday party - South Africans ignite fireworks at any opportunity but I see you are trying to make this about Religion which it is not. Perhaps you have not seen your pets cowering under the table in fear or trying to bite their way out of your door.

Signed.

Big bangs should be banned.

Umlilo, try and see the woods from the trees.

It is fine having an opinion, but try not to sidetrack the good intention of this petition.

Kirsteen,was babysitting lastnight for her grandkid..

He was playing when he heard a car horn outside and he came running screaming and jumped onto the couch beside us and hid his head.Curious we phoned his mom and told him about what happened,she said ever since bonfire night the slightest noise outside he goes into hysterics...

You can imagine what it does to foals,kittens and puppies then....

This is a subject we all have to be very careful with. More wars have been fought over religious differences( try figure that out) than any other reason. My view is that big bangs especially should be banned completely. The pretty looking and quiter ones should be allowed at certain times and not outside those times at all. I have been to many SPCA's and seen the terrified animals there. That is not to even mention the ones knocked over and killed or injured when running blindly to get away from the big noise's. Go and look into the eyes of an absolutely terrified dog and tell me you dont feel anything. In the end is it not a Festival of Lights and not bangs?

@ all the critics:

It seems that my points are being slanted to suit critics who seem to have a bone to pick! I never claimed to campaign for horse abuse!

I am not against banning / fireworks per se; I never indicated that.... together with all the horrid things that happen.
Some of you might recall when fireworks sale was open season after 1994 when one crazy nut inserted the water bombs (or some other one of those big bangs) into the anus of a German Shepherd......sick!

I merely observed that daily there are other concerns also which affect the climate, people and animals collectively.

@rubyclipper:

''fracking opposition...'

What did it help? Who listened? They ended up with a green light and the opposition as a white, racist anti-BEE initiative; did you read about it?

As Craig observes 'a subject we have to be careful..' I am neither Hindu nor Chinese or a Guy Fawkes footman.

Rather, we start educating people whilst learning about and respecting their cultures so that there is mutual respect and regard.... for fellow beings and animals.

What is sinister or nasty in that?

Maybe we should ban the breaking of plates aswell. Went to a Jew. Function and a puppy was seriously hurt when plates were broken on the floor n the puppy was under the table. Jst imagine the trauma of that puppy would that noise n he also was in pain. Ban alcohol aswell, it causes the most noise n harms many people.
