Goodbye to my best buddy

It was with a very heavy heart that my wife and I today said goodbye to our 11 year old Jack Russel, having been diagnosed with diabetes 6 months ago and put on insulin we felt that we had the dreaded disease under control, however he continued to lose weight and virtually over night he lost his sight, I have read up on the subject and it is thought that dogs adjust to blindness well, but to see my buddy become completely unable to do things on his own and fall down stairs and haplessly walk into furniture was more than we could take...I am in 2 minds whether or not it was a selfish decision on our part or if we did what was in his best interests but this evening we took him to the local Vet and he went to sleep never to suffer again, only if you have had a friend that was as close to you as Mitch was to me can you understand the pain that will be with me for a very very long time,I have had friends loose their pets and have passed on my condolences NEVER realizing the devastation they were going through, not quite sure why I posted this but felt I had to say something b4 I go completely out of my mind... Sleep well Mitch my buddy, the pleasure of spending the last 11 years with you in my life will help to ease the pain of loosing you..
RIP

@ Tich......ai my vriend. Ek is so jammer en ek huil saam met jou. Hoop die paar woorde bring troos.

A million times I needed you,
a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you
you never would have died.

In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
no one could ever fill.

If tears could build a stairway
and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to heaven
and bring you back again.

Sterkte my vriend. Dis 'n seer storie.:(

Hey Titch, i am so sorry for you bud.

I had a miniture pincher who was 17 years old. She wasn't doing well at one stage and i was at work. My mom got her to the vet and my whole family was extremely close to her. She was our best friend for my whole life it seemed. I rushed from work and got to the vet and my whole family was there by her. She was still alive when i got there. I picked her up and told her that it was fine to go now.....she died in my arms. It was like she just waited for me to get there to say goodbye to her.

I am crying just typing this and bringing back the memories......all my love to you and the wife.

PS - i know this is hard, but it gets better with time my friend

sorry for your loss titch...always a hard thing to go through, but at the end of the day they are happier not being around anymore, being unable like they are to show pain it is hard for humans to relate, but they feel just the same as we would, being sick, feeling weak and helpless, blind, old...it is at this stage that we have those in our lives just wanting to call it a day...you did the right thing bud, it will be hard for you and your wife im sure, just remember that you did the right thing, and Mitch would be grateful!
