TIPSTER results - What I paid for..

I paid a local tipster a subscription and I kept stats for over a month on results...

The tipster typically offers 6 selections per race. On these you could play trifecta, quartet, exacta or whatever. Read into it what you want.
However he also offers a more targeted(as opposed to 'see I tipped him 6th of 6 so why did you not get into it?') betting SUGGESTION of a R2100 odd P6 and R210 odd PA and an Eachway, Best Bet and Value Bet.

I kept figures on the latter targeted bets for two reasons.
1. The 6 selections in a race results were so shocking I kind of just ignored them
2. Any eejit can throw 6 horses in a race and try and wangle a winning bet post race time.

Stakes amounts are reduced (e.g. 210 PA I would play for 100). But the percentage returns would be the same.

PA stats(Bet R100 on a R210 odd PA)
10/44 winning (23%)
Staked 4400
Returns 2531
Loss 1869 (-42% Return on invested money)

P6 Stats(Bet R200 on a 2100 odd P6)
5/44 winning (11%)
Staked 8800
Returns 4939
loss 3861 (-44% Return on invested money)

Best Bet Stats(R200 Win bet)
19/38 winning (50%)
Staked 7600
Returns 7464
Loss 136 (-1.8% Return on invested money)

Value Bets(R200 win bet)
10/40 winning (25%)
Staked 8000
Returns 7355
Loss 645 (-8% Return on invested money)

Each Way bets(R100 win and R100 place)
16/42 winning (38%)
Staked 8400
Returns 4950
Loss 3450 (-41% Return on invested money)

Total stats:
Staked R37200
Returns R27239
Loss R9961 (-27% Return on invested money)

I initially started betting but then backed out to statistic collection. Thank goodness cause it started well :-)
You must remember these are smallish bets. And I still would have done 10K in a month. I dont find that acceptable.

People who have no time to study, pay tipsters, who have systems, that work 10% of the time. Formgrids, combined with wake up read between the line ABC clanners, can give you the profits you want. John Sweet, the Whisperer, etc, are all nice guy's running a business and trying their best. It.s your choice....pay for tips or study a bit, but shooting people down (ok, now you gonna give me a mouth-ful) trying to make a living!!!

I think this subject 'is nou hol-rug' gery.........nothing personal my friend:D

avanza, paying for tips you a looser because you need to recover your bet and their crap tip most of the time. Hard work pays and nothing can substitute your study of form. Limit yourself away from the unknown baby horses and study. There is some hot tipsters on this site and some realy informed information, filter out the chatter and follow the lads that are in the know, Agra for one has a freaking awesome SR and has definately earned my respect and as for the Greg$$$$bucks. the later in his name has been earned. (Sorry don't forget that Frodo and Mrs Magi >:D

i was also involved with a tipster who i also lost R18k in two months, forgetting what the subscription cost which was an additional 3k, but the one thing i must add, is that it is beneficial for those who enjoy punting but want to learn what to look out for in a horse, what tell-tale signs show a weak favourite, how to structure exotic bets, what cards are harder to play etc etc. this all you can pick up from a tipster, but i certainly wouldnt religiously follow one anymore, what they teach you for the 2k i feel is worth it, as by the end of 2 or 3 months you end up structuring your own bets accordingly, and find your own strategy that works for you, according to your risk profile and budget etc.

If you start relying on paying tipsters in order to win then you might as well not play the horses.

I dont take things personally.
Sudying form takes TIME. That time feels especially wasted when the form book is turned on its ear. The dart board comes to mind often... pot luck. So why not allow someone to make a living by saving you that time?

I am not hammering any tipster - I am saying(among other things perhaps more positive) - dont bottom feed off of peoples vulnerable parts (emotional and otherwise) if you know you are only feeding off of novices naiveity.

Just like you have a new crop of 2 year olds every year in racing, so you have a new crop of t*ts like myself every year. And that is where the dollar is made by the preying tipster.

No one expects a 'magical' return else half the investment houses would be here! but for feks sake - answer a straight question with a straight answer. Lying politicians make some of these people look good.

All respect to Magic etc etc that are top class guys.

:-) Thanks - learning that quickly - targeted betting is what is required.

I find that unless one has some sort of inside knowledge on the ponies wellness, that one is like a sitting duck.

Why the feck should the trainer and owner and jockey have the info and the punter funds his pasttime?

Do I race dogs in my back yard and invite you boys to come and have a bet? after I alone have seen if one has the squirts for the past week or not? or her season is upon us, or his nuts are causing hinderance? or this is a prep run?

This is the greatest form of legal insider trading I have ever seen.

There are races that exclude this 'insider' info - but otherwise we are second guessing jockey selections, last runs and betting moves.

And this is with respect to all owners and trainers that post here, but ''inside info'' will make you a poor man quicker than you think... I have heard it so often, ''horse is well and can't loose'', then the horse runs unplaced::o... Lots of bullshitters in this game... :o

Personally I feel luck plays a bigger part than most punters realise in racing.

To be lucky...practise more and more. Study makes the process more enjoyable and hopefully more profitable.
