I will ask James today if they would be prepared to put some punters on their show. This thread shows there are many sides to racing. I am sure there are trainers or jockeys who think they are the main cog in the game. They make their lively hood directly out of the game where as most owners and punters have other sources of income.I think everyone should agree that it is a game of many parts and ALL have to work together.

Hey Craig
There are many parts, and I guess working together would be an ideal. But if everyone just did what they are supposed to do properly that would be a plus.
The thing is, your may run a good yard, jocks try to ride well and owners and punters try to choose well. But larger organisations that represent us, seem to have acquired wills of their own.
So while trainers compete with each other, as do all the other groups because it's a sport and the point is you have to win to win, we should at least think together.
I always remember that when a survey was done a long time ago, it turned out that what we wanted as a group was not what our various organisations THOUGHT we wanted and we got lost.
I saw a video clip of Bernard Kantor's brother, Prof Brian Kantor, and he made the point that while the business of racing in the UK is one of the worst from any financial view, he points out it's not for the money. Have a look:
We've dumbed down the sport so that we feed ourselves a diet chariots and Ngong....how can you love that? Who wants to sustain a loss on that?
It's our sport. We own shares or are the members. Who asked for Ngong? Why do we take this shit? We've only ourselves to blame. If you keep believing that we have to have more and more Ngong...in order to make money...to pay for here...pretty soon "here" won't have room to be seen. It's the story of the man who swallowed a fly.....

I somewhat agree with you BC except that winning ways will give the guys five minutes, perhaps Bob & Dave could approach Tellytrack with the view to have a ABC TV show.....

Thanks Hibs
The missed point is that the operator is guaranteed 25% takeout with no risk. There is cost but not the same risk that the bookies are faced with daily. Bookmakers could be hammered by astute punters or punting syndicates.
Ladbrokes is not getting into SA to be the saviour of racing in SA. They are in it for profit as all good business should be.
The operator is far removed from the needs of the punter. The only reason that I have ever taken open bets is for the convenience of the "one stop shop". The operators approach is "we don't offer the open bet at Betting World". The customers betting needs or convenience is ignored in the name of trying to prove a point to bookmakers who in turn are laughing at them for cutting the nose off to spite the face. I am not suggesting they adopt the open bet at Betting World, I am suggesting they adopt the Interbet approach. (I have not been on B World for a long time so I am not sure that this statement is still accurate but I don't believe much would have changed)
I support Interbet for fixed odds and tote on their site for exotics. I support the Tote through this medium because there have been many debates on the open bet on this site and other forums and by all accounts the Tote does contribute more to racing.
The issue that makes me wonder though; the operator always portrays itself as the victim and the bookie the villain. The interesting thing is that whenever there is talk of sacrifice it should be the bookie who should sacrifice a portion of income for the greater good of racing. In my view consensus should be reached on what the operator will sacrifice, say 50% of its 25% takeout in favour of tote bets struck with bookmakers through a tote linked system at the bookies. Once consensus is reached on this, the traditional open bet should be declared and agreed by all parties, to be illegal. Rather 12.5% of one than 25% of nothing.
The net result is that the punter is offered service and convenience. Growth should follow as a result of this good service and convenience.
