Rate your local?
14 years 6 months ago
Bob and Dave - how about a sticky thread where punters can rate their local TAB or Bookies Rooms?
Maybe we could score out of ten for things like service, hospitality security etc - the main thing would be to list the area where the place could be found so that punters looking for a decent venue could find one? Also if not up to scratch I'm sure the owners of said establishments would like to know punters thoughts and attempt to fix problems ?

No problem Mr H
Have only been to Hollywood and Fouries and must say 5 star for punters including food and facilities, have not been in a tab since Bosman St.

TAB - BENONI - BUNYAN ROAD
Staff extremely friendly - very basic facilities - no bar only coke vending machine - nice punt and leave venue - security zero I'm afraid
HOLLYWOOD BOKSBURG
very good overall venue though parking can be a problem over weekends when flea market is buzzing
TAB Darras Centre Kensington
Staff can be annoying at times as can punters who are often abusive because they drink heavily. Very new facilities good parking and a few restaurants to eat at outside of the venue. I would not suggest spending the day there.
BRUMA LAKE
TAB is awful - closes early and generally have a bad attitude towards punters - Bookmakers seem accommodating enough - Has the vibe of an old time betting room - lots of regulars - food available, good parking and security - not a bad place for an afternoon punt as it's right next to the motorway
TAB BEDFORD CENTRE
Decent venue - not sure if they serve food but the Centre has many really good facilities - I would recommend this TAB if you wish to spend the day punting with a few friends(I would not hesitate to take a female companion here)
TAB TURFFONTEIN RACECOURSE (OFF COURSE)
Anyone that has been to this TAB will know it as an example of how not to race. Punters, for whatever reason, stand around under a corregated roof watching racing on a television set while just a few hundred metres away the real live stuff happens. Dirty place with seedy feel - avoid if you can - This place should be torn down and turned into stables or something useful.
TAB VON WELLIGH AND MAIN
Rubbish

Mr Hawaii, I preferred Hollywood Boksburg when it was still at the k90 building. Ample parking, better atmosphere etz.
But it is better than my local bookies in Kempton Park, where Long street is a dangerous area.

i go to betting world club tab at greville racecourse...the positives are the place is nicely done out plenty parking excellent food nice pub and my mates go there...but plenty negatives such as zero supervision the tellers continue to eat and drink ,there is absolutely no control over the volume ,no decimination of information therefore if a horse is claimed or scratched jockey changes etc the punters will not be aware...i bet with other bookies on my phone and very little with b.world as their prices are not the best...the biggest tragedy is michael weare who heads up betting world is 20 METRES FROM THE PLACE BUT HE HAS NEVER SET FOOT IN THEIR DURING TRADING HOURS IN ALL THE YEARS I HAVE BEEN GOING THERE PLUS THE AREA MANAGERESS IS HARDLY EVER THERE ...this place has the potential to be the best in the province but bworld dont give a damn...i can also add that i asked for a meeting with mr weare over 1 year ago to take up many punters complaints and i am still waiting...these days it has become a pretty empty place

Pirates i agree with you on Club Tab at Greyville . I am in JHB and whenever in Durban mostly go to club tab and sometimes Marshalls in Umhlanga. If only they would sort out those problems it would get a 9/10 from me.it is very clean comfortable with good food and facilities and i have found most of the staff friendly and helpfull.
Whe in jhb you should get down to THE BETTING LOUNGE AT BRIGHTWATER COMMONS IN RANDBURG a nice clean bright venue with bar facilities and food available and delivered to you from the many restaurants in the centre. Two bookmakers Lance Michael and Warren Tannous both give you everything you need with happy helpfull staff and good stretches when you ask.IT also has tote facilities which are fine bar the usual tote problems of not enough cash to pay punters but most times the bookies will help out if asked. In my opinion a great allround venue and safe with plenty parking.

Tote and Marshalls Port Shepstone
They look much better after the upgrade. The service is pretty good at both unless you are cashing in a winning ticket at Marshalls, the manager there deliberately drags his feet and takes his time and looks so sour as if he has to pay you personally out of his pocket. I guess they don't call it the slower south coast for nothing. I don't know when last he has washed his shirt either. The bar is in a shocking state of disrepair, broken chairs and couches and the bar counter looks like an offcut reject from a cheap Chinese furniture factory. It just looks like the kind of bar where a stabbing is likely to occur at any minute. Don't go in their unless you have life insurance! You cannot order a hot plate of food anywhere, perhaps the giant natal cockroaches in the back have eaten all the ingredients. The bar tv dates back to the nineties I think and constantly has a snowy screen. Jeez, if I wanted snow I'd emigrate!
Tattersalls and Tote Shelly Beach
I love this place! Clean and friendly with good food at an excellent price! Keep it up! My only gripe is that the prices you get at Tattersalls are really bad and so I use my online accounts when placing bets.

I wish the mgt of Hollywood in durbs reads this.Pls reconsider how punters/'clients' are frisked when entering yr premises.Other outlets were also robbed in past, have not been this extreme.
I have to agree that the Club Tab in greyville has the cosiest facilities. One Kruger franchise nearby, small but accomodating.

Just want to expand on Fouries.
I usually punt from home but if I do hooked up with friends etc my choice of venue is always Fouries in PMB. They are "streets ahead" of the rest in PMB and others that I have visited in other cities.
Fouries have a very, very large general area which incorporates the bookies section and across the hall from the bookies section is where the tote machines are located. They have state of the art television and sound. All the bookies prices are marked up electronically at strategic locations.
There are TWO seating sections in the general area that are raised and has restaurant style seating on both raised sections. Each of the raised sections has approx 15 - 20 tables that seat 4 per table.
There is a constant supply of ice water in glass jugs with glass tumblers (not plastic or foam) to cater for those patrons in the general area.
There is a smoking section that leads off from the general section and can seat about 30 patrons.
There is a huge oval bar area as you enter the facility with fantastic service. Thee is also a "takeaway" with a modern kitchen with waiters ready to serve you. There are 3 private lounges located in this area with table seating that can accomodate 16 to 20 patrons in each lounge. There is yet another bookie section in this area for your convenience.
If this is not enough, this area leads out to a covered patio with braai facilities and seating for about 20 - 30 people (braai packs are sold in house).
It is undoubtedly the best facility that I have visited but must add that it does not look much from the outside.
IT'S NOT OUTSIDE - IT'S ON TOP
