Kobus, if punters got their choices taken away they would just move on to new pastures...

Lets get one thing straight between me and you.
I'm not telling you where to punt... that decision is still yours.

You pls. sir inform me then what does the open bet or bookmakers contribute towards racing and here i mean towards the daily run of the race tracks and stake chequees.

Well done to winners...

Sad news...

Racing is going one way and it's like the government...

PE is the flagship of Phumelela...Gold Circle [especially West Cape racing] is dragging us down. Rather close Durbanville. There's more horses in PE than at the Vaal. Wasted money by closing Newmarket to try make Turffontein work which will NEVER happen!

We can kiss the breeders goodbye as prices will plunge from next year cause who's gonna buy 1200 yearlings if racecourses are closing down and there's no races or not enough racemeetings. Why did Phumelela have to help Gold Circle out of the kak? Too many chiefs and no indians! One governing body should be established very soon or racing is gone. Privatisation is imminent is all that's gonna sort out these problems...Bookmakers need to come to the party as well. Phumelela concentrated too much in getting the bloody Bingo licenses they neglected racing.

This is absolutely sad for racing - Bloem, Newmarket, Arlington, Gosforth...scandallous. Absolute mindless decisionmaking...AND IF I VOTE NO? I'll get the finger...most probably...so rather say no more...Mauritius seems the way to go...as in a few years only the rich owners will compete like in Zim...for fun...

kobus as a punter its not my problem that your beloved phumelela cannot run its business properly,as a punter its not my problem that the stakes are where they are,,as a punter its not my problem that the bookies are not taxed enough ...its a game for kings and cunts and we all know who the kings are...like i said i want the answer to these 2 questions HOW MUCH PER YEAR DOES THE OPEN BET TAKE OUT THE GAME AND SECONDLY WHY DONT PHUM SUSPEND DIVIDENDS FOR A FEW YEARS AND PLOUGH THAT MONEY BACK INTO RACING OR DELIST FROM THE STOCK EXCHANGE...next time you see your mate clyde basel ask him why the only sponsors he can secure is from his uncle in the furniture business and racings opposition the casinos....i give my betting business to people that treat me properly.

Kobus,if I understand your point......when I find a horse to back at 5/1,should I secure the 5/1 for a win,and evens a place or should I place it on the tote and,for the same result, get 1/1 a win and my money back if it places.
Silly me,I think I will use the bookies!
You blame the open bet,but Saftote make no effort to adequately compete for the win/place market!

Rob i apreciate that you understand my point.
I also understand your point of getting the price available.
Wil this prices not change when the pools is bigger on the tote?

And i also agree with Radetsky about Port Elizabeth.
If you haven't race there before you won't be able to compare it with racing anywhere in South Africa.
The pools is big... sometimes even bigger than Saturday racing in the Highveld.

It's just very sad to see a race course like Arlington going up in flames.
I have such wonderfull memories of that track..... Lizard's Desire winning the New Turf East Cape Derby on that track.

Another bad day for racing :( when will the downturn stop?

I guess never until we have "virtual" racing with no overheads.
