A really great evening with an Illusionist as the entertainment. Very different and exciting.

Champion 2 yr old colt The Plunderer
'' filly Short List

" 3 " colt Bold Silvano
" " filly Sarah Em

" older filly/mare Tuvana Silva
" " colt/geld Surfin'USA

" sprinter Hear The Drums
" stayer Thunderflash

" apprentice Jonathan Soll
" jockey Warren Kennedy
" trainer Gavin Smith
" owner Fred Crabbia

Horse of the Year Surfin' USA a very surprised and emotional Jaques Strydom made an awesome speech that had most with lumps in their throats.

The bad news of the weekend was on Friday when Larry Wainstein asked owners and trainers to meet with him after racing. He was passing on from Phumelela that they cannot afford to maintain 2 tracks in PE anymore so want to close Arlington permanently. In reciprocation they will put in a Poly track at Fairview.......The East Cape owners & trainers have to decide on this but doesnt sound very good if the answer is " NO to the closure" as it feels as though Phumelela has made up their minds. This concurs with our earlier post about racing being in trouble as it seems the "bottom line" is the most important thing.

Well done to all the winners, especially Kobus (Bravo)!!!!!!!!! with The Plunderer.

To be honest I cannot say I'm surprised by the actions of Phumelela. They have made nothing but HORRIBLE decisions from the word go. In stead of coming up with alternative plans like privatization of race courses or leases to operate or a host of other ideas......

Its easier to offload and watch industry loose another intrinsic part of the racing cog. PE is the ONLY center showing growth in both turnover as well as horse population. Why don't they rather ask the PE people if they can think if a way to help out the situation instead of handing them an ultimatum.....either agree or we do it anyway!!!

Newturf you guys should ask the blokes from Phumelela as well as the brains trust from the RA, what happened to the wonderful property that was Newmarket and the lights debacle which could have been prevented if they weren't so short sighted.

I wish you guys down in PE all the best and would encourage you to fight, fight, fight......there ARE other alternatives.

The punters and owners have to decide.... Do we still want horseracing or not?
Do we still support the bookmakers or not?

What does the Bookmakers put back into this sport?

Make up your mind and stop blaming everybody else.
If there isn't funds to run our sport.... say good bye to our sport.

I seriuosly think it's time that we decide.
The bookmakers... the open bet.... or make horseracing the winner.

You decide

There is no greater problem than "P",and sending Larry Wainstein as a messenger boy, removes any doubt as to whose puppet he is!

Not only is he a puppet, but it goes to show how Phumelela run their business. They don't even have enough gumption to head out there and discuss this matter with the people of the PE region.......

Surely the RA doesn't have these race courses under their portfolio...surely it is under the Phumelela umbrella?!?!??! Why even think of sending the RA.....

I don't know, this whole South African racing situation stinks like yesterdays dog turds.

Its easy to say something bad about Phumelela.
It's easy to say something bad about any company or person.

Would you allow me to come and take profits out of your company.
You pay for everything and keep the boat afloat.

I will come and take what i need... share your piece of the pie with me... without me putting in anything into your company.

If this doesn't make sense to you... then you must be just out to destroy racing for all of us.
The open bet is hurting the game.... doesn't matter if they are even only taking out one rand from the pools.
Bookmakers also... doesn't matter what they take out of the game... even one rand is one rand to much.

And no Pirates i don't talk out of the mouth of Phum.... i'm talking out of the mouth of a horse owner.... who just loves this beautifull animals.
