PHUMELELA GOLD ENTERPRISES MEDIA RELEASE
SUBJECT: UK Tote agrees new deal with PGE
DATE: Friday 2 July
RELEASED BY: Phumelela Gaming and Leisure Limited
Following the successful launch of fractional tote betting in England last month, the UK Tote and Phumelela Gold Enterprises (PGE) have entered into a ground-breaking agreement that will create new opportunities for commingling tote bets in the UK and South Africa into single pools.
The UK Tote’s introduction of fractional betting paves the way for UK punters in Tote Direct shops to bet into TAB pools on South African races.
South African punters already bet into UK Tote pools, but the new deal enables the UK Tote to offer commingling on more bet types including the Trifecta. Fractional betting is offered on the Trifecta in South Africa and the roll-out of fractional betting in the UK now enables Trifecta pools to be commingled.
The agreement marks another exciting development in both PGE and the UK Tote's rapidly expanding overseas business and will provide more opportunities for tote punters in the UK and South Africa to bet into commingled, and therefore bigger, tote pools.
UK betting shop customers will have the opportunity to take a range of bet types into TAB pools in South African, as well as multi-leg exotic bets that are popular in the UK. This new opportunity, part of the UK Tote International Service to bookmakers, is expected to commence later this year.
As always with commingled pools, the rules and takeouts of the host tote will apply. TAB customers should note that the takeout from UK Tote Trifecta and Swinger pools is 26% and 30% respectively, but takeouts from Win and Place pools are much lower at 13.5% and 18% respectively.
One of the success stories of the UK Tote's commercial partnership with PGE has been the launch of the Swinger, a popular bet in South Africa, on UK racing in June 2008.
David Craven, Managing Director of Totepool, said "Phumelela has been a long-term and valued partner of the UK Tote. We are obviously delighted that we have secured the South Africans’ involvement and investment in UK racing and we believe this new deal will have significant benefits for both parties.
"With our technology developing at such a rapid pace, we are able to extend our association with South Africa further than before, commingling on a wider a range of bets and providing a platform to re-launch the totetrifecta. The fact that UK betting shop customers will also be able to access South African pools makes this a win-win deal for punters and bookmakers alike, as well as increasing profits for UK racing."
Phumelela Gold’s Group CEO, Rian du Plessis, said: "We are very pleased with our renewed and expanded agreement with the UK Tote. Going forward our customers will benefit from being able to bet into additional commingled exotics and, importantly, our South African pools will also benefit from the reciprocal betting of the Tote’s customers. It is a win-win for both of us!”

This crowd are so out of touch with reality....do they expect their customers to be excited following the debacle, which has never been resolved or adequately explained,in respect of previous co-mingling.
It is truly amazing that they can operate with absolutely no concern for their home based customers, but then again customers seem to accept it (until they are directly affected again)
The simple truth is that punters are being robbed(when a 3/1 shot pays even money and R1 a place that is robbery) and this lies at the door of SAFTOTE.
Either they are robbing ,or allowing staff or hackers to rob,or paying excess commissions/fees but either way a fully independant forensic audit is required!
Nobody with any knowledge of gambling can buy the bullshit that some large professional punter reduces his own value &/or bets large sums to break square,at best.

All this dribble does not excite me at all,
I shall keep punting with the bookies, have been disapointed with the tote win payouts in the past

Is anything being done to our local software to accomodate fields of greater than 20 runners without simply massing all the runners numbered 20 and above?
Or do we continue with 'buy 1 get the lot' - a self defeating option for the punter.

uuhmm Phumelela as a betting entity seem to benefit....but exactly how do SAF punters, owners etc benefit from all this? Is any of this increased turnover going back into the game in South Africa ie increased prize monies, better punter information and service? please switch the light on for me anyone? i can't seem to find the switch - where am i missing the point - other than Phumelela gearing everything to becoming a world betting entity and saf racing being used as an entry platform?

Garrick,
I flew to Frankfurt 4 years ago and the guy next to me was running an internet gambling business from an island in the Caribbean - he told me he had just been to a meeting with Phum, and that it was a piece of piss to change the software to accomodate as many horses as was required, but they weren't interested. It's pathetic when you take a quartet in UK with 30 runners, say on one the the big feature races with a big pool, and the first 4 are in the twenties then you have to wait for the 5th, 6th, &7th places to find out the result - even then some of these may be No. 20 or over !!
