Looks a tricky card, maybe Kruger Gold can get his trainers first win?

Anyone got any strong fancies?

Secret Life could expose Fuzzy Cuzzy

JACK MILNER - THERE are occasions when any student of form knows that should a horse repeat the form he showed in a particular race he becomes the proverbial "good thing’’.

That applies to Fuzzy Cuzzy in Race 8 at the Vaal on Tuesday when he runs in a MR 90 Handicap over 1200m on the sand. In his penultimate start over the track and trip Roy Magner’s runner finished a 1.50-length third to Emerald Cup winner Phunyuka with Sandy Beach second.

As he meets nothing of that proven calibre in this race, all jockey Gunter Wrogemann will be looking for Fuzzy Cuzzy to do is run to that level of form. The five-year-old gelding may be carrying 6kg more but he is taking a drop in class. In addition, he did his chances the world of good by winning his last start over 1000m at this course, touching off stable companion Special Award by a short head.

There looks little to trouble him on exposed form but there is an unknown element in the form of Secret Life. Paul Matchett’s runner has never raced on the sand but there are some indications in his form-lines that he could be a factor if he takes to the surface.

He finished a 3.50-length third to Warm White Night in the Grade 1 Gold Reef Resorts Medallion over 1200m at Scottsville two years ago and followed that with a third behind Vertical Takeoff and Rocks Off in Juvenile Plate. He was then was never in the hunt in the Grade 1 Premier’s Champion Stakes.

Secret Life was gelded after that outing and continued to contest feature races but did not regain that level of form until recently.

With his merit rating reduced to 77, the four-year-old finally chalked up his second win with a 1.75-length victory over Shalako. In his next outing he was backed to start 5-2 favourite and despite a 3.5kg penalty, did well to run just 1.25 lengths off Gourmet Guru in an 1160m sprint at Turffontein.

Only the race will tell if he takes to the sand but if he does Secret Life must be a contender.

August Eight has the benefit of No 2 draw and Piere Strydom in the irons but still has to prove he can win over 1200m. He is clearly at his best over the minimum trip and has only placed twice in 10 starts over this distance. However, if anybody can pull this off, it’s Strydom.

Didn't they originally put in the SAND track so that "no racemeeting would ever have to be cancelled"?

I " had " a runner today..... drawn 1 for a change over 1200m & not in the " granstand " ( we all know how important a good draw is around the turn on the sand track )

the question is - did they try & save this meeting - postpone it from Tue to WED ?....... they did go from Sat to SUN this last week end !

I'll bet next time he runs we'll be drawn in the sh!t house.

any of you R.A. members out there - ( I'm not one of them ) ask the R.A. why racing was not " postponed " Element you may have something there.
