Dr Vienna to prescribe best medicine on tough Vaal card
JACK MILNER - GET out the abacus, tarot cards, drawing pins and bones because they may come in useful when trying to find winners at the Vaal on Thursday.
Punters will find themselves fully tested by this turf meeting on the inside track but as always, those who strike it right will strike it rich. The art will be trying to find a runner one can bank on for the day and then load other legs in the Exotics.
Piere Strydom could come to the rescue of punters aboard Dr Vienna in Race 8, a MR 62 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1000m. The five-year-old mare returned from a break of almost three months last month to beat the males in at 1200m race at this venue.
Strydom rode her for the first time on that occasion and while in past Dr Vienna has come from off the pace, in that race she led from start to finish. She drops slightly in class and faces opponents of her own sex this time. The distance will be of little concern, as Dr Vienna has twice won over 1000m.
Focus On Fashion took 10 races to win a Maiden Plate and there followed a decent performance, when a 4.25-length sixth to Ash For Cash over the course and distance last Thursday. St John Gray’s runner seems to have improved since being fitted with blinkers but could struggle, as a recent maiden winner, to give weight to Dr Vienna, a three-time winner.
It’s great to see MJ Odendaal back in action and, even better, that he is back among the winners. He rides Lady Ameera for Gary Alexander and she must be in with a shout. The Alami filly has won two of her last three starts and has plenty of room for improvement.
Whatever the fate of Ameera, Odendaal must have a fair chance of winning Race 4, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1400m, where he rides National Lane for Lucky Houdalakis. Her last two starts, both at this track, have been promising and the race looks a straight tussle between her and KwaZulu-Natal visitor Royal Highness.
Mark Dixon has made a few successful raids over the last couple of years and obviously believes Royal Highness will enjoy the straight 1400m. She has run second in her last two starts and has the services of Gavin Lerena.
Slainte has been expensive to follow in KZN but won her only start over 1400m at this course on one of Dixon’s more successful raids. The Modern Day mare is back again and could provide some value in Race 5 over the same distance. She meets a reasonable field in this FM 62 Handicap but could give Odendaal yet another winning opportunity.

Pirates to be fair the majority of punters that use the pullout don't have computaform or winning form to read the form and have to rely on Jack et al to read form for them.

The owners of these horses have been begging for these lower rated races, now these horses can earn their owners a few rands back, these racemeetings are few and far between. Good luck to the owners today who have stuck it out. Look for a large pick 6 payout, its all gambling.

PO folks that can recall that far back - this would have been your standard Bloem Card so I can't see the reason why people are complaining. If the guys have a look at the meeting there are reserve runners all over (I watched the noms and you could have easily added another few races because of the volume of runners) I'm grateful to have a chance to earn some stakes against my own class and remember sometimes watching the u13 e rugby match can be far more exciting than the first 15

It's liable not to reproduce the run,but Weather Girl looks the best roughie on the card.Dramatic improvement last time, over the CD,and against winners too. This is a soupies field.
