Budapest Bullet' Overdose nearing return

Hungary: Zoltan Mikoczy, owner of unbeaten sprint sensation Overdose who has been off the track since last April recovering from a foot injury, reports the ‘Budapest Bullet' to have successfully completed his rehabilitation and said he hoped the five-year-old would soon be able toreturn to action.

Mikoczy said Overdose would soon be returning to Hungary for a brief period for administrative reasons as he needs to be registered through the Hungarian racing authorities in order to be entered for Royal Ascot, theentries for which close on April 20.

The British-bred son of Starborough, who was ante-post favourite last year for both of Royal Ascot's Group 1 sprints, the King's Stand Stakes and the Golden Jubilee before injury intervened, has won all twelve of his career starts and also ‘won' the voided first running of the 2008 Group 1 Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp.

Speaking from Hoppegarten in Germany, where Overdose has been based since moving from Hungary with his trainer Sandor Ribarszki earlier this year, Mikoczy said: "He will have his first full training run, and if all goes well, we will try and find a relatively uncompetitive comeback race for him probably somewhere in central Europe.

"Where exactly that will be, I don't know yet. If he comes out of that all right, he'll have one more race and if he shows us that he is back to his best, the plan is to bring him to England for Royal Ascot. The horse will tell us everything."

Overdose ruled out of weekend run in Berlin


Germany: Overdose's return to action has been delayed yet again after connections ruled out a race in Berlin on Sunday.

Owner Zoltan Mikoczy revealed that the 'Budapest Bullet' still needs more time to fully recover from a foot injury which has kept him off the track for 13 months.

"Unfortunately he is still not yet ready torace" Mikoczy said.

"If he was a handicapper then perhaps it would be different, but he is Overdose. He needs more time and we are not going to risk him by bringing him back too soon".

Mikoczy said that Overdose may now make his comeback in a Listed race at Haydock on May 29 May before running at Royal Ascot.

"That is the plan at present, but if it has to change, we will come up with another one," he said.

"The horse will tell us when he is ready and the horse's welfare will always come first in our considerations."

Overdose's trainer Sandor Ribarszki is to return to train in Hungary next week following a five-month spell at Hoppegarten in Berlin.

"Overdose is a horse that comes along every 100 years," he said. "It is better for him not to run than to run when he is not ready".
