Is Racing Where You Want To Gamble

I must share an incident from yesterday..
Had a meeting at 12 noon with 2 guys in the insurance industry, had lunch and then excused myself to catch a couple of races....they decided to stay and in their words"see what this racing is about"
15 mins before 5th race they borrow my computaform and quickly work out the basics(they ask one question- how far is a Kilo in distance)After a while the question is"this bloke PAC Miller, has 4 in the race but two of them White Nights and Scorpian King beat each other, every other run,by large distances.....how do you know which one is his choice?????".....the other 2 then run 1st and 2nd much to their amusement.
They then move to the 6th Race....I explain that this is not a handicap so is much easier as some horses have little chance at the weights....they point out that the two with the best chance (Eagle Eye and In Awe) also beat each other every other time, and oh,it's that same bloke, Miller.
When Miller won with Scrutinize ,who had lost to both the other 2 easily in the past, they got up,gave a smile and said that"if thats racing you can have it!"
Pity,as they are both gamblers!

You should get them back today and get them to work out why Piper Pilot is .5kg worse off with Ariza today?

Introducing people to racing via the medium of Kimberley is akin to trying to get someone interesetd in cricket and then taking them to a provincial 4 day game between boland and border.

Yup Party Line, but it just shows that all racing counts because there is no telling where and when people may introduce themselves to the game.
I am not sure it would have been better to say"rather go home, racing at Kimberly is a lottery"..........and are you sure it is any worse,in relation to form reversals, than anywhere else?

Maybe i'm wrong,I don't really even look at Kimberly but....i do imagine the form reversals are probably worse there. I would say sand racing and the Miller factor combined, make for some of the most unappealing and inconsistent racing around.

Yeah Frodo,I see that now... MR is correct..Yard have chosen to run under minimum weight!
Should be a helluva race tho as 4 runners have speed rating of 160 (computaform) ????

How the hell do they allow these types of errors (not that I ever really take the Speed Rating into account)?

Interesting for me to see how new sire Tiger Ridge (first local runners?) shape up against the Cataloochee in the first

Rob to be honest if I had to win a really big one I'd walk away(I'm optimistic that I will hit something big soon) The game has changed so much and I'm not enjoying it anymore - Strange results, strange dividends, inconsistent tracks etc I feel like the 10-year-old kid that has realized that there is no Santa (the magic has gone) So I'm waiting for my big Xmas present then enough for me I hope(I've still got perhaps two years as an owner)

MrH .I know how you feel..Have spent 40 yrs+ absorbing every bit of knowledge I could about an activity that I have loved for that long.....only to find that people in the game for 5 minutes can guess more successfully than me as almost any science has disappeared
Surprises and upsets always have, and always will, form part of the game, but I see no sign of signicant efforts to keep them to minimum....some of the form reversals are avoidable with sensible rules and adequate enforcement thereof!
I am dissappointed that R Bloomberg who,at one stage believed that a rules review was necessary,is now where he can influence that, but have not seen or heard of any progress!
