Al, it is your choice to 'go out and buy a Bafana Shirt, a vuvuzela and get behind your national team ', just as it my choice to not do so

I am sure that the world will appreciate the vuvuzela more than they appreciate the sight of the old South African flag at rugby matches.

Don't think the world can be bothered much, but the vuvuzela is much louder on the ear

Stirring stuff, Al, but it will take a lot more than patriotic hometown fervour and plastic trumpets to make Bafana competitive. With no disrespect, compared to this the rugby world cup is mickey mouse.

I think that SA is going to be shocked by all the media attention it will be having from about April right through to July. This is the single biggest sporting event that the world waits for every 4 years, even bigger than the Olympics. In 94 in the US even they went mad for it

I agree, C and C. The size of this thing hasn't really sunk in. This is one event that almost every country except the Vatican longs to win. From Lithuania to Peru there are countless little boys who dream of one day lifting that trophy. Rugby and cricket? Hardly in the same league. The Poms still talk of 1966 like it was yesterday!
