MEL KAPLAN
THE Greyville card on Wednesday night is sure to be entertaining but finding winners is no easy task as a few of the runners in each race have winning claims. Bet On Blue has been consistent since a rest and could provide bettors with fair value in Race 7, a FM 87 Handicap over 1400m.
Trained by Dennis Drier, the Mogok four-year-old has raced over 1400m only once and won easily. That was her sole win from eight starts to date but she has placed in four other occasions of which three were at Greyville. After shedding her maiden tag Bet On Blue raced green on the Clairwood bend and finished ninth of 14 over 1450m. She was just 3.65 lengths behind Taiki Dancer in that race.
Her next run was over 1600m at Scottsville where she weakened to fifth, 3.15 lengths behind Muamba over 1600m on 21 June. She was then rested until 9 October, taking a respectable 2.25-length third place behind Frozen Delicious over 1600m under lights at Greyville. She was backed to favourite over the same course and distance just more than a month later but finished third again. She was four lengths behind Tea Break at the finish.
She went back to Clairwood for her next and latest race, finishing second, three lengths behind In The Mist in yielding going. She does take a step up in class this time but has the advantage of a lower weight to carry as a result. She does not have a great draw at No 8 but will be ridden by Raymond Danielson who has no hang-ups about wide draws, which takes care of that little concern.
Stable companion Fantastic Lady is also consistent and looks a threat. She does have to carry 0.5kg overweight though, and that is a slight disadvantage. She has the better draw at No 3.
Top weight Spanish Wisdom bids for a hat trick and has a definite chance. However, taking a line through Taiki Dancer, she will be hard pressed to give Bet On Blue 9.5kg and a beating.
