Old Newmarket site inspection
15 years 5 months ago
Will post pics over the week end. Very technical for me waiting for my 3 year old nefew to assist.
Lots of old junk lying around.
No work done to demolish remainder of main building for quite sometime now.
Outside wall slowly diappearing thanks to local Sqatter camp.
Inside grounds just a mud bath as far as i could
Broken Light poles lying around.
Tried to find the old tunnel under the main road
Not a hell of a lot going on if they plan to open in 2011.

these images must be some of the saddest I have seen in a long time. I was such a huge fan of Newmarket, especially with my family and family riding history being started there.
All I can say is that maybe we should ask the Sheik if he wants to invest in a race track in South Africa? prime location and beautiful land (albeit a little "marshy")
As much as it pains me to say (for personal reasons), I so wish we could give Phumelela/GC some competition somehow.....Make them realise they are NOT the Gods of racing in SA!
Thanks for the pics Sly.

The best course in Gauteng, if not in South Africa. Now reduced to a finishing post in the middle of nowhere. I have said it before but what happened with Newmarket stank like a bucket of dead fish on a hot day. There is something about the whole debacle that we most likely will never know.
