Interbet question

15 years 6 months ago
#77450
I have very recently decided to try my hand Interbet.

I have a question. The only bet I have had so far was to "test the waters" as it where. I put R20 on Ecohawk. The price I requested was 4/1.

I was sent an electronic ticket confirming my bet as 60/20............?????

WTF???

I requested 4/1 and was given 60/20??

What am I missing? I'm sure this is how Interbet does business and I'm just missing somewhere, but if you advertise 4/1 and you put R20 on you should get 80/20?????

What am I missing boys?

4/1 would be 5 on interbet,if you typed 4 you got 3/1

I kind of surmised that but this is false advertising or do I have the bull by the balls???

If you advertise 4.....then it is 4.

So they make a big push for advertising the "best prices" but the prices are not the best, only a very slight stretch from the other bookmaking prices anyway.

I would love a better explanaition so I may understand what I want to get into.

Correct Tommy, as an example look at the Summer Cup Oracy 3 = 2/1,
3.8 is 28/10 Magical, decimal figure but you can have 4.5 = 7/2 and the punters are looking for 5 = 4/1

Thanks for the help guys,

I understand how they do it, just not wure why????

Like I said before if you offer the player 5/1 on a 7/2 horse then why don't you just say "you can have 5/1".....why say....Your odds are 6/1, but you can only have 100/20????

Thats what I'm struggling with. All the other headings are all pretty self explanatory.

I guess it is either a promotional tool or there is another reason.

I'll figure it out

Just keep backing the winners Tommy and you will soon get the hang of decimals and fraction

In fact Tommy if you look at the tote board and it says 3.00 means the horse is 2/1

Decimal odds such as those are pretty standard. Betfair does it the same way. It's not something Interbet is doing differently. Also, when taking your bet, it quite clearly shows the amount you stand to win before you accept.

If you go to 'My Profile', you can choose to have the price display in fractional format instead of decimal.

Thanks for the info guys,

Like I said, just something to get used to.

Scotia,

The tote argument does not hold water because the tote does not return your stake, which the bookmakers do, thats why the tote shows a higher dividend.

True Tom, was just making a comarison with looking at the board you see 3.00 and if you put 100 on you get 300 back
and if you put a bet on at decimal odds at 3.00 which is 2/1 and you put 100 on you also get 300 back

catch you later Tom have to get to airport

tommy perhaps its the computerised system that cannot take incidentals such as a 'slash', only full numbers, hence a new symbol system had to be invented.
