The Stipendiary Stewards Reported (TN): TIALATA (*J Jordaan): Placed second. Selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer N Kotzen standing in for Trainer M de Kock advised (DA).
Apprentice A Mgudlwa the rider of BULBINELLA was granted permission to hack this filly to the start with his feet out of the stirrup irons.
Jockey S Veale the rider of CITANO (5.80 lengths) reported that he felt something amiss with this filly in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
As the field turned to the straight TIALATA (*J Jordaan) hanging out, shifted out brushing RAPID FLOW (*A Domeyer) carrying RAPID FLOW (*J Jordaan) outwards which resulted in RAPID FLOW (*A Domeyer) brushing ANOTHER GOAT (M Yeni) at approximately the 350 metre mark.
At approximately the 250 metre mark TIALATA (*J Jordaan) shifted out carrying RAPID FLOW (*A Domeyer) outwards once again which resulted in RAPID FLOW (*J Jordaan) brushing DEVONIAN (S Cormack). Thereafter at approximately the 200 metre mark RAPID FLOW (*A Domeyer) is forced to switch inwards to obtain a clear run. Apprentice J Jordaan the rider of TIALATA accidentally dropped his near side reign shortly after the 200 metre mark.
An Objection was lodged by Trainer G Van Zyl on behalf of RAPID FLOW (*A Domeyer), placed second against TIALATA (*J Jordaan) placed first, on the grounds of interference and intimidation in the straight. After hearing all the evidence presented to the Board, considering the video evidence and considering the distance of a diminishing short head between these two horses, the Board was of the opinion that but for the interference RAPID FLOW (*A Domeyer) would have beaten TIALATA (*J Jordaan). The Objection was upheld and the Judge’s result was amended.
