THE LOGICAL GAME.

Being a racehorse owner with different trainers over the years i cant fathom how 1st timers are punted, especially when the trainers tell you that the horse has never been on grass, and that its going for an educational run.Asking the grooms how the horse is his response would be,Ya sharp baas ver good,as he anxioussly, looks to see if you going to slip him a R50 or so.The next move that comes to mind is do people sit with a stop watch and binoculars, well ive seen a string or two in my day and believe me i couldnt tell you which horse i owned after the gallops unless they had a distinct marking of some sort, when they walk around the ring.So i ask myself what are your chances of a 1 st timer coming out with a vote of no confidence from your trainer, have never run on grass, have to come around the bend for the first time, need all the luck in your run in,hope the jockey keeps horse out of trouble, and still have to win.yet horses are claimed and claimed,i suppose its the logical game.

The first runner we ever had........A Raise a Man colt....Beautiful big colt with loads of speed.

Only thing is we never knew anything about this. The trainer said the age old rhyme. No the horse will need the run and it may be slow and it may be green.

On course the horse plunged from 10/1 down to 15/10. It ran second by a long neck only because it had slipped in the starting stalls and hurt a mucle in his back.....

What chances do owners have of catching their horses right???

NONE!!!!

Well if I was an owner and my trainer told me this and I saw the horse being backed, I will try and get the horse scratched or just tell the jockey not to win as I do not know who the @#*? decided to put money on my horse and I was not told by the trainer about its chances of winning. Then straight after that I take my horse from that trainer and look for another trainer who won't do that. Oh and I will expose him to the racing public in the press for his unprofessional behaviour. You as an owner also need to know which trainers are the genuine type or the bullshitters.

Zoro I feel for you . I really really do .

Owner pays the big bucks , but everyone else knows more about his horse .

THE BIGGEST CROOKS ARE THE TRAINERS . Famous words.

We are confident he will give a good run but not over confident. First few runs will be educational . Wins 1st time out and trainer dumbfounded

Trainers are greedy Zoro and thats the bottom line . They say they don't punt , they are the biggest punters. I HAVE SEEN IT .

At first you would think every one wants a straight game.
I have yet to meet an owner who wouldn't want/try pull up his horse, if he thought he missed the price.
lol

And that's the foundation of the whole house.

I have my horses claimed all the time . Not my money , not my wifes , sometimes don't even know horses running, so busy . I pay

Trainers have people that punt for them . Grooms have people that punt for them . Its about MONEY . No one gives a shit about your passion for racing, being a 1st timer owner etc etc . Everyone wants to line their pockets .

IT STARTS WITH THE TRAINERS !!! They know more then us .

I believe one has to be prepared to take the bad with the good, or else get out of the game; it's your horse so if YOU think it can win have a few rand on it (especially the first run) as nobody ever really knows EVERYTHING about ALL the runners in EVERY race....yes trainers and grooms have punters,,,,,but most of the time they are wrong any way....so be happy to take the odds-on if you think your horse has a chance and at some other time you will probably be able to back it at 20's or 33's or 50's......and it may even win at those odds....

And JD, I have never wanted/tried to have my horse pulled, so perhaps one day we will meet....

I think if the trainer told you the horse has a chance and you back it late after it shortened its your own fault. But if he lies and it gets backed to kingdom come then surely you are allowed as an owner to withdraw the horse. Its ur investment afterall and why would u want the dirty punters who got that info to win and not the honest punter. Screw the dirty punter.

What exactly is a "dirty punter"?

I'm with Don here. But we've had this stupid discussion many times already so there is really no need to belabour the point again.

cannot be the trainers..
they are all poor..
and they are not present..
here and there are some still driving the banks car..soon to be taken back..

it works like this..
2 trainers at ranjesfontein each have a horse running saturday.say race 7..

so yesterday, the jockeys raced them against one another..6am...
trainer at the stables..drinking coffee..not at the track..normal...
grooms clueless...
the one is fav 2/1..the other...20/1...
the 20/1 beats the 2/1....

so, I get a call..back the 20/1...
the trainer does not know..
the owner does not know....
I dont know the trainer....
I dont know the owner......
I dont even know the jockey(s)

Why do they call me..
I am standing at the track as a bookmaker (BetterOdds)
the jockeys want R100k (R50k) each..and I can take the rest..

race 9..the jockey calls..stand the fav (8/10) for his R50k..his riding..
I cant go wrong...

NOW THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS..
I now know the fav is no good.
the 2nd fav is 22/10
the 3rd fac is 7/2
BAR............6/1

I start backing the 7/2 and cover with the 22/10
7/2...........R100K/R25K
22/10.........R25K/R10K

now..the trainer...jockey..and owner...of the 2nd and 3rd horses dont have a clue what is going on...not that I have...purely taking a chance..

I pull it off...
then I get called a WAN...

I am off the opinion, when a horse gets to the track its in the public domain, if a trainer/jockey gets asked what are the chances of your horses today, they reply and the punters can punt it or leave it.
Would be good if the owner gets first bite, but in this day in age with the technology etc, its unlikely, so the stakes and glory should be enough, and a wee punt at the best odds on offer.

imvho
