Maiden Plate Noms

Just have a look at the number of Noms per race in Jhb and in Durban..sometimes up to 112 horses

Its no longer a case of getting the horses ready to race for trainers..its now a lottery as to whether the trainer can get a horse into a race..and if you run unplaced then you in for the long haul to get the horse in again

Either too few races or too many horses in training ..or both!

Oscar,

something that also might have to change in South African racing methods is horses making their debuts over incorrect distances. In the UK a horse bred to run over 2000m makes its debut over >1600m (generally speaking of course) Now this will esure that so many horses nominated over 1000m and 1200m that have NO chance will be nominated in correct races, for this the programmers need to liase with trainers to see what is needed. This way lso means your horse does not need to run over the incorrect distance and have an unplaced mark next to his name.

Yep good point..but as I say there seems to be zero dialogue between trainers and programmers here..maybe Im wrong but I doubt it

Remember the figures from that other thread recently. We've had a huge drop off in number of horses in training over the last decade.

Ja I know but I think Andrewest also questioned that because the no of races has increased dramatically over the last decade..maybe because of technology we are now able to see the no of noms whereas in the past we couldnt..also Im not sure but I think the way noms and acceptances are done now is different to how they were done a decade ago?

Personally I do think that trainers should not be able to see who has accepted before they decide to accept or not.

With a dedicated 24/7 racing channel no reason why it should not be televised "live", not sure when they take place, but if it does clash with a local race, could show in the replays package, the owners that put much money in the game would surely enjoy?

have watched a few declarations taking place online for KZN, intersting to watch. Wondering if anyone watches them to get pointers on which runners to possibly follow in the actual race? Does anyone know what all the abbreviated comments stand for?

I look at my filly niminated for the 8th. She is in the mile race @ the Vaal and has ZERO chance of getting in. Now the question is , why run her over 1000m-1200m with a view to sepping he up at a later date? I put NO pressure on my trainer to have a runner at all. but now she needs to run a place because MR will be kak due to her 1st 2 runs (also prpbably cause she is kak) but thats not the point. In my world she would have made her debut over 1600m and even if she ran a poor race at least she would have her 2nd start over a correct distance where we could actually see her true ability over the ground she needs. Now she is really under pressure cause we dont want to end up with a rating of 40-50 due to another lacklustre run.i hope my rambling makes sense.

Why not have a process in place where trainers submit a list of races that they need for their horses? For example, Easy's trainer should be able to 'request' a suitable 1600 metre race and one could be scheduled when there are sufficient similar requests.

Impartiality would be required, and there could be some abuse, but it should be better than the current system, or lack of one.

not at all, I ME MYSELF bought the filly (and others as a present for my partner) they are her babies, she loves them and visits when she can. I follow the racing side of it.

Easy your point is absolutely valid mate. Its becoming a management problem as opposed to a training problem..Everyday I see why my good mate Buddy was a genius in the way he nominated..he had no computor..just an old fax that never worked..he used his cell phone to do all his noms and acceptances

He would nom for everything then phone at 11 on acceptance day and listen to who was running..he knew all the sprinters in the country off pat and had many horses to do the collateral formlines in his head in split seconds..he used to ask whoes riding this horse ans that horse and then in an instant accept or not.

Trainers need admin staff who are extremely jacked up in the form and riding arrangements of all their competitors and then I think the problem will ease..excuse the pun.
