The answer could be one day a week in which ALL races are maiden races. This would produce a lot of winners and unclog the system.

1 race day 12 races 14 horses = ONLY 12 winners.
Lets now allow for the occasional upset and poor ride means 6 of those are actually VALID maiden winners.
Which leaves 120 horses that once again run unplaced.....
This needs better planning and looking at. More races will help BUT correctly nominating horses for the correct races is also maybe a solution. Look/listen to todays podcast on the other site and an assistant trainer says " well he is not ready and this is too short for him but he needs to see what the game is about" THAT is at the cost of another horse that WANTS to run and be competative running.

Following on.
Would the American system of "self " handicapping and claiming not be a far wiser solution for South African racing? I aodre the US stuff, and i mut say that punting on it is far easier than on SA racing. As a betting product i find it far more user friendly and consistent.
As for the time trials and transparency i feel that this is the way to go.
