Excerpt from Stipes report for Race 3 at Durbanville yesterday
"h) After the all clear had been given it was discovered that the Clerk of the Scales had weighed out Apprentice G van Niekerk, the rider of TURF TAXI, which was declared the winner of the race at 50,5kg, which is ½ kg less than the horse was required to carry in the race. A Member of the Stipendiary Board lodged an objection, in terms of Rule 68.3.7, on the grounds that TURF TAXI did not carry the correct weight in terms of the conditions of the race. After considering the evidence of the Stipendiary Steward, the Clerk of the Scales, and taking into account the submissions made by the Trainer of TURF TAXI, the Stewards upheld the Objection and disqualified TURF TAXI from the race, and the judges’ result was amended accordingly. The circumstances giving rise to the rider of TURF TAXI being weighed out underweight will be further investigated."
So the horse was disq. but still officially the winner for exotics, thus killing 99% of tickets.
The reason this happened is that TT was carded with Domeyer +1/2kg
ie the official 53kg plus the jockey declared 1/2kg over.
When appy Van Niekerk(claiming 2,5kg) replaced Domeyer, the clerk of scales obviously forgot about the 1/2 kg overweight declared, and weighed him out at 50,5kg rather than 51kg.
Still inexplicable how this error was only discovered after the all clear had been given.

What about a well known jockey on July day many years ago, Ran 2nd never weighed in and everybody threw their tickets away. Later the horse is declared scrathed and a full refund. What a fiasco. You never seen a betting shop floor so clean. Who needs cleaners.
