TOTE TURNOVERS - will they increase in years to come

Tote turnovers will fall and perhaps start increasing by 2016.
2016, when we have the first of the seven fat years, again.
Everyone is ranting and raving, shouting and screaming, but were are only in year one of the seven lean years.

Look back into history.
From 2001 we started making money.
Or rather inventing money.
The entire globals village were on the rich dad poor dad bandwagon.
Until end of 2008, the the bottom fell out, the last of the seven fat years.
Which generation...Generation "Y"...google "generation Y"..

Before that, have you forgotten, we got 19.75% pa from Nedbank in 1998.
Yes, work was something of the past, that's if you had money.
The rest of society was going through the lean years.

And for those that can still remember that far back...
1986-1989
1996-1999
2006-2009

The generation to come, refered to as "Generation Y" are bankrupt.
These are the guys aged 25 to 35.
They are higher/better qualified than the previous generation, or the baby boomers.
The major share of the workforce is made up of these individuals.
Also, the majority of sequestrations are made up of these individuals.
Hence, from a economic perspective, we have a bad patch of 10 years, that will take 20 to 30 years to get out of the system.

It was the baby boomers that changed the world.
Created corporations, build bridges, invented new ways, created stock exchanges, etc.
It was the baby boomers that fixed everything themselves.

It was generation "Y" that drove the economic system to the ground.
It is generation "Y" that will outsource everything.
From garden services, to changing a bulb at home.
Everything got outsourced, the circle completed, ended where it started, and nothing got done.
It's generation "Y", that is bankrupt.
Their children will grow up like the baby boomers, poor and learn the value of money.
Most baby boomers and their children grew up after the war, when very little economic wealth was evident.

The generation younger than 5, might be like the baby boomers and change the economic world for the better.

Look at the photos taken at the awards..
only baby boomers..
where is generation "Y"
do they own horses..
do they punt..

guess the tote is in for a surprise in years to come..

Not from a economic perspective..
most have their credit cards revoked...globally...google.."generation Y"
very little gambling will take place...

learned their lesson with MTN (medium Term Notes),CD (cash deposits),BG (bank guarantees) and other Financial instruments..
Wall street, our forex brokers, bank forex departments, insurance fund managers have all burnt their fingers GAMBLING over that last 15 years...with these instruments and other peoples pension money..

ABSA and NEDBANK are busy testing the market reaction to their losses..
they both have posted billions in half year losses made from GAMBLING...with financial instruments in the USA..

My guess is..What they have made public is about 20% of the actual losses incurred in these gambling transactions in the USA..

They are testing the market reaction before announcing the remainding 80% of the losses incurred in these gambling activities in the USA..

Reality...the money is gone...
all monies transfered in 2000 from company pension funds to provident funds..have been lost in these gambling transactions in the USA..

signon to www.Freddiemac.com...view meduim term notes..see the numbers..

"Generation Y" will revert back to home entertainment..family values..no money for other entertainment..

AD..you are correct..

the bad times in the bond market, could not have come at a beter time for the banks..

all these gambling in the USA..MTN..are rebundled with bonds..
my guess..the financial index might get to 20,000...then by end next year...below 12,000 when the truth is on the table..

our problem started at school..

you got a monkey puzzle..

The sun sets in the :

a. North
b. south
c. east
d. west
e. none of the above...

think you got it right...
yep, you gave an answer the teacher wanted to hear..you got full marks..

the problem now started..you actually start believing that the sun sets..
you build your mind structures around these "FACTS"...

only to realize..
when you stand on the moon...like Neil Amstrong..the sun never sets...

so..for us to life in the cacoon we have defined..we have to believe the sun sets..

how many of these "FACTS" do we have stored in our minds..

Interesting topic and one that I wanted to write a piece on under a heading of its own, but, this heading seems appropriate:

I was quite stunned by Nico's comments on the USO show regarding Sunday 16/08/2009 small maxipool payout. To be more specific, he mentioned that there was an internal investigation and nothing untoward was found. He mentioned that the pool was bolstered by punters in the Isle of Man. I watched that pool climb at a rate never seen before. I was convinced it was a technical glitch at the time.

The reason for my shock is disclosure. I am employed in the heavily regulated financial services industry, short term insurance to be more specific, and in this industry disclosure is paramount. Garrick will back that comment up im sure. Barring Nico's comments on Sunday, I never knew that the Isle of Man comingled into our pools. Non disclosure. I have since found, on the Phumelela website, that the Isle of Man (and others) does in fact comingle into our pools.

You may ask, well whats the problem? Well the consumer protection act of 2008 sets out to protect the consumer. The act is lengthy but you may find the following extract interesting and could very well be applicable to what I've mentioned above and to other topics previously seen on this site:

"....For the reasons set out above, and to give effect to the international law obligations of the Republic, a law is to be enacted in order to-

1. promote and protect the economic interests of consumers;

2. improve access to, and the quality of information that is necessary so that consumers are able to make informed choices according to their individual wishes and needs;

3. protect consumers from hazards to their well being and safety;

4. develop effective means of redress for consumers;

5. promote and provide for consumer education, including education concerning the social and economic effects of consumer choices;

6. facilitate the freedom of consumers to associate and form groups to advocate and promote their common interests; and

7. promote consumer participation in decision-making processes concerning the marketplace and the interests of consumers

Point 2 and 7 stand out for me. Are we the punter / consumer being properly informed? I would say no and would wager that 99% of the punters in SA dont know that a Tax haven for the rich is betting into our pools.

Let me put it to you like this, if I were Andrew West for example, I might theorise that someone in P might have an account in the Isle of Man and smacked this maxipool hard and cleaned out the pot. Im not Andrew West but this could be and interesting theory for him to explore in more detail.

The act is silent on the thought patterns that lead to a purchase but it is quite clear on how companies should behave. I believe that our protection under the act has been ignored as we were not given the necessary information to make an informed choice. For instance I may buy into the theory mentioned above and may not have purchased a ticket. Many others may have decided to cancel their tickets or not enter, were they informed of this comingling. Contrary to this many more may have purchased tickets. Either way the consumer would have benifited if they were properly informed.

I truly believe that the purpose of the act is for companies to disclose, educate and redress. Therefore P needs to realise that the consumer has protection under the act and needs to start playing open cards with us and not hide behind corporate doors. When questions are asked by us, we need to be given answers so that we can make an informed decision when purchasing. Shareholders I'm afraid cannot be their one and only concern. Consumers/Punters have rights. We are not just a bunch of sick mindless gamblers.

All being said and done,
1. why is Sunday 16/08/2009 the first time we have seen pools jump so quickly and why did we not see a repeat this Sunday?
2. I've asked this before, Is money earned from international punters in comingled pools transferred back into SA racing i.e. stakes pots etc?

Your thoughts and comments. AB I've probably blown my chances now!

Al,surely as punters on the tote we want bigger pools as this provides the opportunity for bigger dividends and also less chance of manipulation by big players. Commingling can only be good for the tote and for racing in South Africa.

I would like to know more about commingling for two reasons:

1. The flow of money. If there is a single winner of a pick 6 pool and the punter is from the the Isle of Man, is the pot SA rands transferred to the Isle of Man. Hello SARS is this legal?
2. Imagine how bleak Joe punter will be after playing the Pick 6 for 20 years he flukes one and it pays R400.00 lets be honest the average Joe Punter is not as educated as Joe Punter on the Isle of Man. (punting and scholastically)

I beg to differ Al, the local punter must have a significant advantage over an overseas one.
