Soon the same will apply for bets taken from Mauritius...???
the nice part...
within mauritius we have our own "Isle of Man"...called the FREEPORT.

It's a business area in Mauritius camped off, where tax=0
all you need is a investec bank account in mauritius, an office in the Freeport..and we do the same...

Mauritius have 2 tote operators, busy rolling out in every town.
Soon the mauritian punters will be punting on our races..their pools comingled with ours....

1,200,000 people on the island..nothing else to do....but punt...
avarage salary during 2006...5000 rupees per month..ie R1000 to R1300 pm depending on the exchange rate..

Good one Nagboy - the circle has to be complete. Punters need to benefit from payouts, owners need to benefit from increased pools, which in turn will see the breeder benefit out of the owners new found stakes increase. If somehow the pool pot is being shifted offshore, then this circle breaksdown and the situation may even worsen rather than get better.

Organic growth vs expansion.

Given that the majority of punters are between 40 and 70, the baby boomers, and that "generation Y", the guys between 25 and 35 are bankrupt, it makes sense to apply the organic growth concept.

Futhermore, knowing that the majority of baby boomers (white males) will be retrenched from now till december 2009, to get the governments "employment equity act" implemented, one would assume that a strategy net is in place by Phumelela to catch these babay boomers before the casino's do.

Or do we expect these guys to sit at home and do gardening.

by organic growth, I mean..
running courses in each town..

very much like the stock exchange brokers do..
trade oil..
trade forex..
trade safex..
trade shares online..
they teach them about envelopes, nested envelopes..how to make selections..what to buy..

sure the tote tells you..
you can play this or that..

how about taking a class of 40 males..
get your IT guys to print stats..last 5 years..
ie.. E Division won 98% of the time by top 5 in the betting..
ie.. MR Handicap won 59% of the time by no 1 if betting shorter than 18/10
put your data in cubes..OLAP..Crystal...sell the info if you want to..
you are sitting on a gold mine of data..start mining it..

charge R2000 for 2 days..
9am-12am...theory..
12am-6pm...practical online realtime..with real money...

open tote account for each student with R1000 deposit (of the R2000)
each guy brings his laptop + 3G..
have teletrack in the class..

show these 40 guys what to look for...get ex jockey to do this..
1. when the horse go down..
2. tote fav trifecta
3. tote fav exacta
4. tote fav swg
5. tote PA tickets on which horses..
6. tote win trends..
7. tote short on places..

help these guys to construct a quartet...if the race allows
1,2 x 1,2 x 3,4 x 3,4 R200 X50

or
help these guys to construct a quartet...if the race allows
Float 1,2,3 x field R200 X1

or
help these guys to construct a quartet...if the race allows
box 1,2,3,4 R240 X10

same with:
Trifecta's
Exacta's

PA's...where to banker..where to load..
P6's...Where to banker..when to play
Jackpots
P3
etc...

expansion...

afica...
only the economy of egypt is bigger that the economy of gauteng..
the economies of rest of the countries in africa are smaller than the economy of gauteng..
why waste money..start expanding in gauteng..

commingling has been well publicised in P's public statements for several years now.

the deal is simple: P sells the pictures to a local tote, and does a deal where the local tote takes bets on the racing. local tote deducts its legal takeout and passes the remainder into the SA pools. the money flows from around 40 of these local totes and other agents via Isle of Man which acts simply as a hub where all the overseas money and betting information is combined. presumably exchange control requires that the money from each bet stays outside SA until it is known how much comes in and how much goes out. the SA pools receive all this information and reflect the value of all the money being channeled through Isle of Man.

all punters in SA and internationally get the benefit of bigger pools. P gets a share of the local tote's take out, and bigger pools which attract more punters. this is not an exercise in transferring money to a few rich tax evaders who live on a small wet (but very green) lichen-covered rock.

presumably this works in reverse too, which is how SA punters can now bet with TAB on races no-one knows anything about in places no-one has ever heard of.

if an international punter wins the Pick 6, then P must pay out to the local tote, who then pays the punter. but remember, for every Pick 6 winner there are any number of losing international bets. that's how the pools work and there's probably not a significant flow of money going out. whatever happens, P has taken its share of the take out so racing benefits.

if racing is a game of skill, then you have to believe that the best punters are going to be those who know most about it. surely SA punters in the long run have got the edge on overseas punters when it comes to SA racing.

i wonder if punters in these overseas commingled places say the same thing about SA racing?

I do better on English racing than SA racing - SA has me a little jaded at the moment. Trying not to fall into negtive punter negativety but some of the results and a few rides are leading me down that path fast

do the sums...
860 towns x 40 students X R2000 = R68,800,000.00

add to it the monthly fee of R200 to recieve new stats on cd..

R200 x 40 student x 860 towns = R6,880,000. pm x 12 months = R82,560,000 pa.

then add the turnover from these guys at ..
R1000 per day x 40 students x 860 towns = R34,400,00.00 per day...
or R10,032,000,000...per month...

far fetched....look at spot trading >$4 trillion per day..2000 is was $1.2 trillion per day..

how did the spot trading market grow...worldwide brokers started giving courses..selling programs..trade from home...

or is it too little money....

what is in it for me....the bigger the pool..the more I win...not greedy...just like a lot....

Apart from a tad little bit of over simplification I really cannot find any holes in Andrewest's logic.
I have recently published an article where I mention how easy it should be to train/educate new punters and existing players about how/where/when and why to bet.
How come these very basic and simple ideas cannot be put into practice by a listed company that need to increase revenue as part of their obligations to their shareholders?

My answer is simple......Phumelela is not run by racing men, but by "educated" men who have never seen a live race horse in their lives!!!!!

Just my opinioin!

Tommy..

It's got to do with P.A.E.I balance in the boardroom...

I dont know the people in the boardroom..but from the vision and direction they are going...

The boardroom is run by a strong "A" team...bean counters..

focus to merge with the KZN lot..
comingle with other totes..
there must be a balance...

if left like it is...the company will capsize...

the only reason they get away with it...because there is no competition...

if they were a bank..they would have folded..

spend the last 10 years in +72 JSE listed companies boardrooms as external consultant...can see the signs a mile away...
