Does it matter who wins or how they choose...they do what suits them the best..who appoints the judges anyway.

Do any of the winners besides the "journalist of the year"..which in my opinion was the most debatable choice of the awards..win money or prizes?

Not allowed Greg my mate but hate the "club back slapping kak" anyway.

They might as well hold the awards at one of the regular 5 winners houses and just revolve around that each year so each one of the 5 gets a chance to show off their place...would save a lot of money on venue which could go towards stakes?

Oscar

the only reason why they back slap each other is because they are looking for a spot to stick the knife in

They need to base the horse of the year on Punters selections imo...something like the players player of the year award in football.

Hey Oscar you need a winner boet when you racing again?

Heehee..you guys are good okes...Greg I had to get rid of my shares in about 12 horses which were all racing (as opposed to winning) as I was reportedly removed from stable..the horses I kept havnt run yet except Counter Tenor who will race again soon.

I have 6 with Lucky, 3 with Jimmyg, 1 with Laff,2 with Frikkie, 2 with MDK, 1 with Dylan, 1 together with you with Dave and some others..quite a few babies still at summerhill..Ive had to take most on my own unfortunately as I like having partners cause its good fun!

As for the "Equus Musical Chairs" seriously does anyone know if a prize, overseas trip or money is given to the winners?

It matters big time(who wins) big guy - in four years time when you buy a horse and you see it's dad won Champion stayer in Italy then you realise the stud value etc are all influenced by awards and obviously graded victories - Have you ever watched the Oscar winning movie Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon? This was basically a Karate movie that would normally have had a limited audience but the word Oscar changed all that as does the word Champion especially for international buyers that may never have seen a particular horse race - that's my take on the matter

Rightly or wrongly, the decision was made that for 2009 ONLY both the 2008 and 2009 Gold Cup winners would be eligible for the Champion Stayer award, given that the only Gr 1 races which quality for this category are the Gold Cup and the age-restricted SA Derby. This decision wss in fact taken before the 2008 Gold Cup, and was therefore in no way intended to "favour" one horse over another as at that stage neither Desert Links nor Mokaro had won the Gold Cup.

It was intended that this "crossover" would apply only to 2009, but of course the whole awards timeline may need to be amended in 2010 (courtesy of FIFA) before returning to normal in 2011. This extension of the deadline beyond 31st July 2009 applied only to the Champion Stayer award and not to any other category. Nominations for the various awards were finalised before the 2009 Gold Cup with the proviso that the winner would automatically be added to the list of Champion Stayer nominees if it wasn't there already.

None of the categories for which Mother Russia might have been eligible fell under this "extension", only the Gold Cup. There are plenty of Gr 1 races open to horses in her catefories during the season without having to consider Gr 2 race results.

I have no idea how the journalist of the year award was decided, nor what was in it for the winner.
