You have just very succinctly asked the biggest question in all of racing!

When all is said and done, no matter what anybody tells you, in this game glory trumps all, until it comes time for a horse to change hands, then it is all about the bucks!

When I first became a bloodstock agent, an old pro told me that in this endeavor, one had a choice between money and glory, and that one could not have both.

That's why racing is more appealing than selling, because you can get close to having both.

It should have done but then surely Mother Russia would have won the award???

Mother Russia's win wasn't included in the deliberations.

She was up for 3yo filly, and won that race as a 4yo.

As I understand it, only the Gold Cup was duplicated.
The change is because of the limited opportunities for stayers during the season.
The Gold Cup is normally run within a few days of the season ending.
Apparently it therefore made sense to include it as part of the previous (official) season.
In 2009, as the change-over year, both the 2008 and 2009 Gold Cup were included.
In 2010 only the 2010 Gold Cup will count.

So for argument's sake, if an older horse / filly was up for the older horse / filly of the year, and he/she managed to win on 1 August (like Mokaro) the performance should have been taken into account for the previous season's title? Shows you what happens when exceptions are being made; imo races run on that Saturday (1 August) should never have been considered for the previous season's awards - it was a old fashioned boo-boo in my book.

Why don't they just move the Gold Cup earlier? Seems the races during 'Chamoions Season' are being rescheduled almost every year; so with some planning the God Cup could be fitted in earlier - as it is a lot of changes will probably need to be made next year as everything will have to fall into line with the soccer.

If both 2008 and 2009 were included then surely the horse with the faster time and higher MR should have won (desert links)

Toontony I think that's a great idea; the season probably is going to need some shortening next year anyway, only problem might be that a horse will then not be able to run in both races

Choices must be made - too many horses running in our big races anyway.
