Racing to music?
15 years 11 months ago
I posted this topic a few weeks ago, and now the event has taken place, did anyone see the race, whats your thoughts?
How about "I am leaving on a Jet Plane" for the July Cup?
Action Impact wins first race staged to music
THE first race ever run to the accompaniment of music proved a smash hit with the majority of a big midweek crowd at Kempton asheavy gamble Action Impact stormed home to the strains of the William Tell Overture in the digibet.com Handicap on Wednesday night.
The track's new MD Amy Starkey came up with the idea to swell the crowds and succeeded in her quest - although some racing professionals were not so enamoured.
Many people waved Union Jacks as Ryan Moore steered the 7-2 joint-favourite past Mafeking to score by two lengths, with the London Philharmonic Orchestra performing Rossini's masterpiece from a small stage next to the winning line.
Colin Gilbert, from New Malden, welcomed the concept and said: "It's a novel idea. It's got the crowd here, and in that sense it's worked, though I would have preferred a proper commentary."
Carol Clegg from Watford said: "I thought it was great. I love that kind of music, it was the reason I came tonight with my mum. It was Best Of British night and we certainly got that with the London Philharmonic."
Catherine Gannon rode fourth-home Hambledon Hill in the mile and three furlongs race and said: "I was dancing from the saddle with a vodka and tonic in my hand."
The London Philharmonic's conductor Stephen Bell was delighted with the outcome and said: "It's the first time this has happenedanywhere in the world, and it was a suitable piece of music for the horses to gallop to. We had ten players from our brass section and they all had a flutter. We'd love to do it again."
However not everyone enjoyed the experience, as winning jockey Ryan Moore said: "It was stupid."

How stupid? When last have you been to a Casino - the noise of the slots does not seem to phase anyone - perhaps it's something that should be explored a bit further -

Fine tuning - Test cricket is an example - add music and girls and 20/20 took over - Entertainment/Bling key to promotion (As a purist I hate to see it but if things don't change the game will battle)

At least we try and bring back the crowds by doing something differant. By all accounts all you lot do is moan and cry that there are no crowds going to the meetings.

Just to calm you down chaps, I was thinking along the lines,
"have a crack at winning a car at the big T and remember, you have to be at the track to have a crack"
