Kai Thai in Fontainbleau is great (the one in Monte Casino has mediocre service). Also Cape Town Fish Market in Sandton - great service and food (Cresta's service is quite bad generally).

What I hate about restuarants is that it brings out the worst in people at times. I saw some fool throw his baton carrots back at the young waiter because he thought that they were not good and those who order wine then smell it and swirl it and then virtually gargle it in their mouths, and all this for a 10 quid bottle of plonk which in all probability cost the restauranteur less than 2 quid.
And height why on hearth do these chefs have to stack the section of the dish on top of another. Its a plate of food to eat thats all I dont want to see tomatos cut out in a rose style and of swirls of sauce and carefully placed veg or salad and when they bring the food to you some of these places have dishcovers and all is revealed at once as if there is a bar of gold or a waddy of 50s on your plate.
Give Spur steaks/calamari anyday of the week. I detest going to these fancy places and getting ripped off all the time. Oh how I miss SA food and conversation.

Can't beat Bob's home made soup and bacon rolls / lorne sausage rolls Saturday mornings. Sometimes Scotch pies also available.

Reading the different comments makes me miss the big cities. I now live in George so can only bet at the local tote and if lucky enough watch someone's DSTV for my Horse Racing. This goes for Restaurants as well. Mainly "family" orientated. With one exception to have five star treatment and mealunder quiet and peaceful enjoyment, please go to Duo's Kitchen in York Street. I had the pleasure of going there last week(new restaurant) and this would stand up to any five star restaurant in the Big City. Preparation and taste to die for. When you visit the "sleepy hollow" please try them, you will not regret it.
