Identical on world of Sport. My first comment was tounge and cheek as I had not seen local betting. It was a great call at least we now know what factor the local bookies use to devide prices by when pricing up SA horses abroad (2)

Alcaponee agree fully, absolute disgrace. Every South African trained horse opens up here well shorter than any other betting institution overseas.
To further your example comparing Ladbrokes to SA Bookmakers in Race 8 where 5 South African horses are running (Ladbrokes prices first):
3) Jay Pey 8/1 - 7/1
4) Imbongi 14/1 - 8/1
5) Strategic News 10/1 - 6/1
10) Russian Sage 7/1 - 5/1
14) Biarritz 25/1 - 16/1
To make matters worse there is only one horse in the race who is offered by SA Bookmakers at better odds than Ladbrokes, being 13) Vertigineux 7/1 - 8/1.
If the SA horses have to be priced up so short at least give us better odds on the non SA horses to balance the prices out.
Would love to see Betfair introduced here and watch the bookies squirm when we can bet or lay at 101% to 99%.

Until such time as bookmakers are eliminated, your racing will suffer.
Until such time as the horse owners and trainers band together to force changes, racing association (Phumelela, Gold Circle) and bookmakers wil keep the sport in hobbles.
Not only will they not promote and allow the sport to breathe, they will if allowed introduce and promote such competition as dog racing.

Bookies have only two things going for them: they can offer credit and they can do multiple bets (parlays, etc.).
If the Tote could figure out how to offer these same things, they can more than compete with bookmakers.

Actually, not to be obnoxious, but we won with both of our starters today, Trojan and Golden Idol. The latter still has a chance to make a name for himself. All credit to Geoff and Andre, as they have done a marvelous job with a true nut job of a gelding!
Would be nice to see Russian Sage complete the hat trick.
