The first of three twilight race meetings scheduled at Turffontein this summer takes place at Phumelela’s flagship racing venue this Saturday.
Twilight racing offers a refreshing alternative to a standard afternoon fixture and Saturday’s nine-race card kicks off at 2.15pm with the ninth and last race due to start at 6.45pm.
Venues at Turffontein will open at 12.30pm to cater for those racing fans who want to arrive early in order to take in the excitement of the L’Omarins Queen’s Plate meeting at Kenilworth in Cape Town.
Pocket Power and Dancer’s Daughter, who currently dominate the ante-post on the J&B Met, will both be in action at the Kenilworth meeting – the grey mare in the TBA Paddock Stakes and Pocket Power in the Queen’s Plate.
The other twilight meetings at Turffontein this summer are scheduled for Saturday 24 January and Friday 27 February. The Friday twilight meeting forms the opening day of a two-meeting racing festival with the R1-million Gauteng Guineas over 1600m at Turffontein the next day.
The Guineas is the first leg of the R6.5-million Triple Crown for three-year-olds.
