Brent's first bet for new year!

Hi Everyone,

2009 is here and our assault on the bookies needs to begin.

Before I suggest some opening salvoes just to let you know I have posted a 2008 Betting Wrap on Sportingweb which I think you will find interesting. In it I have a look at some interesting stats and a couple of key hits and misses which eventual saw me make a 300 unit fixed odds profit.

You can click here or visit www.sportingweb.co.za to check it out and please not the pic was taken pre my weight loss challenge so excuse the 3rd chin!

My preview for the SGC Test “Dead Rubber?” is also on site and based on the stats I got my hands on the draw looks way to short at 16/10. That opens up value elsewhere (in my opinion at any rate) and I have also taken a couple of bets in the Top Batsman Market.

Before placing any of these bets check out www.pearlbetting.co.za and their specials on offer. I got a R500 Free Bet (over and above my profits) when Ponting top scored in the 1st and 2nd innings in Melbourne and you also get your stake back if your selection fails in the first innings but top scores in the second (in the form of a free bet and to a max of R250)

The FA Cup gets going this weekend and Chris Sturdy has previewed the live matches in his unique style. I have had a look at the long term market where I feel there might be some value bets to get us rolling in 09.

FA CUP VALUE BETS

1.5 units Fulham at 80/1 with Sportsbet (World of Sport go 75/1 and Betting World 66/1)

1 unit West Ham at 55/1 with Betting World

1 unit Blackburn at 66.67/1 with World of Sport (quite a bit of 66/1 on offer elsewhere)

I have decided to oppose the Big 4 as I am hoping their focus will be elsewhere and that might open up some excellent value assuming we can get a couple of our selections into the latter stages. I have gone with sides that in my opinion are playing well and Blackburn aside who I hope will not get too caught up in the relegation scrap. The FA Cup is a real lottery at this stage so small stakes on big prices looks the way to go.

CLAN CLASSIQUE

Remember that name as it is a racehorse in which I have taken my first ever stake. I have always wanted to get involved with owning horses and thanks to Dave Scott from African Betting Clan I have got my chance and have a share of Clan Classique.

My main problem at this stage is explaining to my kids that no the horse cannot live in our garden and that they will not be able to ride it. It may be premature to make accommodation arrangements for July Day but I am sure it is going to be a lot of fun and hopefully a maiden win is around the corner.

I am off to PE for a week (laptop in tow of course) so the radio show breaks until 17 Jan. You can catch me on tonight’s Betting World show (ch 232) after the last race where Terry puts Garth away in no uncertain terms.

Finally here are my two favourite stories from 2008

Els in Citizenship Shocker! – warning posted April 1

This Hore was great value!
