Hi Clan

Does anyone know of the outcome of his hearing into the Whip Gates matter?

I know that the case was being heard last week or the week before.

as far as I know he is entitled to be given as much time as the system allows. What I will say is I would rather have him race riding than the other guy , im sure the other lad is in cahoots with every horse physio in SA....the bouncing cannot be good for the horses backs

The system is flawed so obviously no fault of Lerena.
What has his riding style got to do with this whip gate case Easy?
The world saw Lerena act like a savage and purposely assault a fellow jockey yet he was allowed to carry on racing the whole season and win the championship.
Then I can say this...I would rather be friends with Gates than a violent person like Lerena.

Tyreek – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. T. Sherry (Grand Prairie) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that after improving into a position between Providence and Aerodrome near the 350m where there was not sufficient room to do so, he then, after passing the 300m, commenced to ride his mount vigorously when racing tight between Aerodrome and Providence, which had the effect of forcing Providence in across the running of Tyreek, which collided with the running rail and dislodged its rider, D. Gibbons. T. Sherry’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 7 September 2025, at the expiration of a suspension incurred at Royal Randwick (Kensington) on Wednesday 27 August 2025, and to expire on Wednesday 8 October 2025, on which day he may ride. D. Gibbons (Tyreek) was stood down from his remaining engagement in race 10 by the medical officer. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Tyreek to have sustained a suspected injury to the near-foreleg. The gelding was transported to the Randwick Equine Centre for further veterinary assessment, which revealed a fracture to its scapular, and was subsequently euthanised.

Back in the saddle again today Anywhere else in the world he would have been banned and if he appealed the hearing would have been done and dusted already not in SA. It’s a ridiculous situation which definitely brings the running of the game into disrepute.

So by that logic, the next jockey that causes interference twice in a race against the same rider & horse should be banned for life?

There will be no jocks available in SA by the end of September. SA is the Cowboy Capital of racing.

There seems to be a fixation with the whip incident without any recognition of the fact that Gates twice caused dangerous interference. The second interference was half way across the track and I would have interpreted that as intensional and Gavins reaction as self defense. I suppose everyone has a different opinion and interpretation.

Why not ban Pillay for life? my interpretation is that he purposely and dangerously moved across to take up the running of two Miller horses in race 6 at a critical stage on a horse that was backed in....

It all comes down to the two in charge at the NHRA.
How they still have their jobs is inconceivable. They have messed up so much that in any other profession they would be out and battle to get reemployed in the same field. From the Tony Peter debacle, the TCO mess up,this Lerena crap and when Paul Peter should have been banned for life and never allowed to enter a race track or training establishment after using steroids on his horses, they give him a fine and allow him to carry on training.
They using up all the money on court cases but nobody is brave enough to try get them out. There is no communication from them as if they think they don't have to answer to anybody.

There are many examples of why there needs to be an overhaul of the NHA. The fact that they lost the caffeine case against James Goodman and in the process destroyed his business being just one.
