Nice idea,  but lets not forget how much the bookies have pumped back into racing on recent years.
I'm all for the greater good of racing, but key question remains: Why do punters prefer to take the open bet with bookies ?
If the tote pic 6 pool is one million and there are ten winners each winner gets R100K each.
On the open bet each of the ten winners get 1 Bar each.So in a way the books are exposed to liability.Thats my understanding anyway.

That is not correct. You are paid what is declared as the dividend on the tote!
Hi Sammy , apologies you are correct ,what I trying to say is perhaps if the tote pool is 1 bar and there is 1 winner then the dividend declared is 1 Bar.Then there can be countless winners on the open bet and they will all receive 1 Bar each.If they wagered there bets on the tote then the tote dividend would be much smaller tx

Back to the initial suggestion from Mr H

We must also consider the high flyers or big hitters are looked after by the bookies and no way they can have a large punt via a tote which would drastically reduce the already poor price.
They need a fixed guaranteed price.

If we consider the open bet option on exotics eg the pick 6

The big hitter wants to play 200 k on a perm, he probably expects a return as opposed to the many R500 or R1000 punters praying for a return.
If he puts via tote it already has a large deduction.

The pool is say R10m and there is 4 winning tickets and payout is R2.5 M each .
If the big punter had played via the tote the pool would have been slightly higher but there would have been 5 winning tickets and paying R2M dividend.

So it's best for the big punters to go via the open bet and not reduce their winnings going via the tote.

If the bookies want to use the tote dividends, they should make contributions to the pools...then the fixed odds and tote odds will better reflect the market...the take-out currently distorts the payouts as the bookies odds do not have to account for putting on the show...it's all margin for the bookies...

Don't disagree and sure we still can't believe how Phum lost the intellectual property case 😔
however it's reality and difficult to convince the big punters to accept worse odds or the bookies to give up this advantage?

The bookies certainly contribute to racing sponsorship

If the pools don't improve because of a multitude of reasons, the bookies will not have a local product from which to add to their profits...
