BETFRED ST LEGER (NIJINSKY 1970)

Good morning!
As we head into the weekend, the highlight will likely be the Doncaster St Leger meeting as we begin to wrap up the flat racing season. Additionally, there's great action from Ireland, with racing at Leopardstown on Saturday and at The Curragh on Sunday, where Aidan O'Brien has some stars lined up again! 😀
We’re also gearing up for the Jump season, and it will be interesting to see if Willie Mullins can continue flying the Hollywood flag at Cheltenham, especially after Isivunguvungu carried their famous silks to victory in the USA 🇺🇸.
The Hollywood team love the Breeders Cup meeting and hope we can see their star in one of the sprints 😍
City of Troy will have his gallop at Southwell on 20th before leaving for the States where he is around 5/2 ish for the Breeders Cup Classic.
Premiership football returns, and Man United must be in panic mode, though they’re still money on to beat Southampton – for the brave supporters! Meanwhile, Liverpool and Man City should continue their winning ways, but Arsenal might face a tough challenge at Spurs on Sunday. Hopefully, Newcastle can also get a result.
In rugby, the Springboks continue to show they are the best in the world, with a hard-fought win against a very game All Blacks team. As for the other match, I can only guess the Aussies took an early flight home at half-time! 😴
Local racing today is at PE, where Nadine speaks to the leading trainers. 👍
On Saturday, we have a doubleheader at Durbanville and Turffontein. I prefer the Cape races, where Let it Be Said, Master of the Desert, and The Abdicator look promising. Up north, William Robertson is my slight preference.
UK and Ireland Racing:
This Saturday is the St Leger, and I’ve been saying for weeks that Aidan O’Brien could land the trifecta, I was waiting for Ryan to make his selection but he is in Ireland 😉 its the final classic of the season.
I did recommend Grosvenor House at 16/1 ante-post, after its front-running tactics almost caught out Tower of London – another fantastic Ryan Moore ride.
Also, don’t miss the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday, where Economics takes on Auguste Rodin. On Sunday, at the Curragh, the Irish St Leger sees Kyprios as the one to beat, though Vauban could make it interesting 🤔. Bedtime Story is worth a punt too.
Keep an eye on UK thread for updates, some good racing in store this weekend 👌
Vauban and Grosvenor House run this weekend and watch the Melbourne Cup betting.
Many won't remember Nijinsky winning the Triple Crown in 1970, in an era that featured greats like St Ivor and Mill Reef. When Nijinsky won the Triple Crown – the 2000 Guineas, Derby, and St Leger – it was the first time in 35 years, and now, 34 years later, it still hasn’t been done. Today, the Arc is often considered more prestigious than the St Leger, which is why some bypass the UK’s oldest classic.
The triple crown gets won every 35 years so 2025 could keep the trend going, ask your bookie for 1000/1.
Here’s a great summary of one of the greatest horses I’ve ever seen:
Good punting! 👍

Its St Leger day.
A small but competitive field.
There is no Nijinsky today but on the subject of greats, GALILEO has his last chance to make it Classic number 21 today.
Obrien has three runners in the race and they are "all" GALILEO babies.
Illinois, Jan Brueghel and Grosvenor Square.
I am sticking to the outsider of the three with Grosvenor Square at 5/1 its just a pity our place odds are poor.
RYAN Moore is in Ireland but Gavin RYAN will adopt the catch me if you can (great movie) tactics.
Make no mistake Obrien and Moore should have a good weekend in Ireland with plenty good opportunities.
Auguste Rodin has to beat Economics, the new kid on the block.
Remember and keep some money for Bedtime Story on Sunday at evens.
Good Punting 👍

My favourite race, St. Leger not forgetting a mention for the great Eldar Elderov who currently is healing after a minor neck surgery when injured in stalls at Dubai.
Eldar Eldarov

TOULON in 1991 was the last leg of my ATC
Was playing Snooker at the Doocot, heard roars from the bar and thought there was a goal at the football.. Went through and it was TOULON winning
