Re: Kenilworth, 11/05
3 years 1 month agobeen a flood of money race 3 hierkomdiebokkie 33s into 5s besides kommedieding i have never seen a 1st timer win from that yard. Anyone heard anything? Never seen a horse been backed like that for a while even though it does not take a lot of money to shorten 1st timers like that.
relatively small stable except for KOMMETDIEDING fame.
now they've backed the pants off this horse HIERKOMDIEBOKKIE...... with a relatively unknown jockey on with just 2% strike rate...to get the price i suppose........ NO MATTER HOW GOOD THIS HORSE IS....... NOT FOR ME !
I make DISTINCTION a GOOD bet @ 9/1 .... Grant v.n. rides.... his strike rate @ 18 % ..... go figure.
DISTINCTION 2 x GOOD runs under the belt........ fire e / way !!

To muddy the water they backed Lady Mistico from 17/2 into 11/2 with the same jock and it won a month ago - Strangely Komm started 16-1 untouched on debut - I'm not touching this race but if I had to have an EW bet it would be on DEFINING MOMENT

How much money do you think was on this horse?
Every time it shortens is that to win R20 000?

Ante post i think the limit on juveniles is to win R 5 000.00, that said, it doesn't take much money to shorten a first time juvenile. Race time, the skies the limit, but you've missed" the double digit odds. For me, if the follow through continues at race time, then follow the money - other than that, let it win without your money.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

What determines the horse must shortern?
I have backed numerous first timers that have won at long odds but never shorten before I got limited. When Dubai Lights won first time out, I managed to get 66/1 to win 10k with one bookmaker and 5k with another bookie. It stayed the same price. Samething with raced horses.

Horses shorten or drift based on demand or no market interest. One of the other reasons a first timer or a raced horse will shorten, depends who is taking/placing the bet, i.e. the owner, the trainer or just an everyday punter. In the days of BODS, the risk was shared and the horse invariably shortened in the betting. Lastly, if the bookie wishes to stand the bet, he can but doesn't necessarily have to shorten the horse.
Heard a story from a bookie's clerk, the bookie will remain nameless, when a punter took a huge bet with him, he'd actually drift the horse. The other bookies in the rooms would follow, then he'd drift it again, and the rest would follow - then he'd send his runners to secure the double drifted price by the others.
Biggest bet witnessed, even R100K on a Willie Pieters sprinter to win the Computaform Sprint at Germiston, bookie didn't flinch and wrote about it in the Thursday night newspaper.

The might have been Senor Santa, open to correction.
