It wasn't clear that he resides in the States, i'm sure it's more likely that's he's on his Xmas holidays?

I would have been more comfortable if he resided in Boston KZN but as Bob says maybe he is on leave although I doubt that with the current Covid restrictions. He wont be the first administrator to reside on another continent let's hope that he fares better than the other one has.

One issue that gets my goat is the platform given to people/websites/blogs who "scoop" a story regardless of where the noise is coming from. This is a blast from the past and it is disappointing to observe that 4Racing are copying the modus operandi of Phumelela in this regard. Who could ever forget the ghastly Turf Talk and the sanitized content on that site? It reminded me of the Citizen newspaper back in the day when it was funded by the National Party. Apartheid? What apartheid??

Bob/Dave have you established ties with the new elite?

I must say this whole 4racing concept is very confusing, I have not been following to much but for the man in the street, the punters (customers) there has been no difference. There are new people popping from all sides,I do understand that excess money will go to stakes but I can only imagine their new overheads must be a monster and if they change direction from looking after the punter then it’s only a matter of time.
I do however know they have just taken over and need time but also they knew a year ago. The only changes one sees and hears is names of bookmakers from all presenters left right and Centre.

The way they going on the queens plate will not go down well with the customer as this year it’s for the elite only, who will pay a high price ticket for a seat in a tent, normal race goers not allowed.

nothing changes - they want the pleb's money, but not the plebs

DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY (i.e., if you're one of us plebs)

I’m 100% in your camp. We cannot CONTINUE to blame APARTHEID for everything.

It was a good system that benefited a few. That is not in dispute. In fact, if you were part of the few, there is no shame in you admitting you benefitted. Hopefully u also benefitted from it.

I also benefitted. I attended a red brick school for those attendees that were not easily visible in the dark. I credit the Apartheid Regime for giving me a basic education (it could have been no education!). I am certainly not the brightest spark (from the dark side) and I will admit that in life, I am somewhat retarded in my thinking but overall I get by from day to day. Full credit must go to Apartheid.

I take it you benefitted from the schooling for those who were easily visible in the dark. What part of OTA’s post irks you? Don’t sit on the fence, spit it out my brother!

Saint T , I did benefit from Apartheid and for that I am not proud but if my beliefs are not the same as yours doesnt mean I'm a racist, just means I have a difference of opinion , hopefully one day people will understand this

Let's get back to racing - I too find the LQP thing this year a bit confusing - and to Mac, I think a 'normal' racegoer is defined in the negative - NOT a trainer, NOT an owner (not sure if this refers to owners with runners on the day only), NOT a jockey, and NOT a sponsor (on the day I assume) - so in other words the usual plebs (meant in the nicest way) who frequents the Totes (I assume there are still Totes ?) and likes to attend the odd race-day now and again.

What I find confusing, is that on the one hand they seem to be saying that only owners, trainers and sponsors are allowed on the day, but on the other hand, they seem to be saying that 'normal' racegoers can also attend, they just can't mix with the owners and trainers etc who will be housed 'upstairs' - oh wait, but NOBODY is allowed 'downstairs' (in the open air - where we are told you are much less likely to contract the dreaded virus) - so where do the 'normal' folk go - and how much are they charged - and how many of them (given COVID regs) are allowed, if at all?

All very confusing - luckily I am not contemplating attending the 'festival' - I'll watch from the comfort of my couch - beer and snacks tend to be cheaper in my lounge anyway

@Craig,

If you “are not proud” then why make a statement that perpetuates the contrary. Your beliefs (and value system) may be identical to mine. It does not follow that either of us are not racist. Being defensive, consciously or otherwise, is telling.

It is up to us to break the cycle of draconian thinking. If we are racist, not based on self assessment, but on our utterances and conduct, then it’s time for both of us to reflect.

Let’s not act like the Lillywhite cast of the On-course Cape Racing presentation crew that refer to the GROOM at “these guys” who do a fantastic job but when they refer to trainers/owners or jockeys, its never “these guys”. Just saying.

PS. Nobody is going to understand your subtext or your unspoken words. Neither of us are perfect, but we have the capacity to positively impact society and make this a progressive place for all, above all, we want racing to be sustainable for future generations.
