Khumalo on the hot pot favourite Gallic Chief seem to drop his whip on purpose.

THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) BUGSY MALONE (W Kennedy) lost two lengths.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) Jockey S Khumalo (GALLIC CHIEF) dropped his crop at the 150m.
b) In the concluding stages, GALLIC CHIEF (S Khumalo) which rolled in marginally was carried out by PREEMPTIVE STRIKE (S Veale), which shifted out away from the crop. A member of the Stipendiary Board called a race review into the above incident however, after reviewing the patrol films of the race, no further action was taken. In arriving at this decision, the Board member took into consideration that PREEMPTIVE STRIKE (S Veale) had run on from behind GALLIC CHIEF (S Khumalo) and that, in particular from the side on angle, PREEMPTIVE STRIKE appeared to be quickening away from GALLIC CHIEF in the concluding stages and that the result had not been affected by the incident. Thereafter, CUPID’S SONG (T Godden) which was carried out by GALLIC CHIEF (S Khumalo) became awkwardly placed on the heels of GALLIC CHIEF (S Khumalo) and BUGSY MALONE (W Kennedy). Consequently, Jockey T Godden was unable to fully assist CUPID’S SONG to the end of the race.
c) Jockey K de Melo reported that CRESTED EAGLE made an abnormal respiratory noise in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
d) BUGSY MALONE (W Kennedy), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D Bosch advised (ML).
JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES :
a) BUGSY MALONE raced with a cornell collar (advised 04.08.2021).

RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER :
a) Nil.

THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED :
a) PREEMPTIVE STRIKE : Cast right hind shoe.
b) CRESTED EAGLE : Nothing obvious detected.

SCRATCHINGS
a) IRONTAIL : Coughing and nasal discharge. Withdrawn by the Veterinary Surgeon at 13h05 and the betting was 9/1. Rule 53.5 applies.
