I beg to differ on this aspect...none of the "vaccines" prevent infection as is the norm with true vaccines (eg measles, chicken pox, etc that took a long time to develop and have sufficient data to show their long term safety and side-effects)...these minimise the effects of the virus if you do get infected...so they are more therapeutics than vaccines...semantics to some but one of the reasons for aversion by many...
You immune system is also likely to better ward of the variants (if infections is not so severe to hospitalise / kill you) than the current "vaccines" that will require boosters as efficacy wanes over time (currently about 6-8 months) and as new variants arise...
Each to their own...all the best to fellow Clanners, vaccinated or not...stay safe and healthy...
Hi TNaiker
I have to disagree with the above statement, all of the stats I've seen indicate the vaccines have a rather high efficacy at preventing infection, which is the main point of the vaccination programs, to reduce the reproductive factor to below 1 and end the pandemic.
On top of which, in SA at least, is our capacity to handle the volume of covid cases requiring hospitalisation, we now once again have ambulances parked outside casualty with patients in the back, for hours at a time, which can be prevented if there is a higher vaccination uptake. This obviously also affects non covid emergencies.
As to the long term negative effects of the vaccine, I agree we can't yet know that, and there appears to be some question as to doctors not reporting side-effects. What we do know however is that there are some potentially serious long term/lifetime effects of covid (long covid).
Yes the vaccine efficacy wanes over time, as does our natural immunity to other corona viruses, which is why they are still around.
I definitely believe getting vaccinated should be a personal choice, everyone should have that right, but I hate to see those decisions solely based on all the misinformation and blatant lies being spread around social media.

@Scraping Paint...
Many thanks for replying...
Firstly, I am not on any social media...I read extensively, a variety of sources, and make my opinion based on that reading...
Most recently (yesterday) I shared an article of the experience of Isreal...one of the first to adopt the "vaccines"...that should give some insight into "vaccine" efficacy and why, now, there is likely to be an endless requirement for boosters - naturally-acquired immunity is more likely to prevent infection from variants rather than reliance on boosters...
Yours seems an emotive response rather than a factual one as you acknowledge some of what I have stated but arrive at a different outcome - I'd like the "vaccines" to work as a vaccine should - prevent infection and transmission - as my elderly parents, my brother and sister, my in-laws, and the wife have all had theirs - I'm the lone eligible person who has not and continue to take the non-medical measures to prevent infection...
Stay safe and healthy...I'll continue to limit interactions with most persons (vaccinated or otherwise) so as not to infect them should I prove to be asymptomatic...I work in the solitary confinement of my home, I mask up when going to shops and keep a safe distance from persons around me, I sanitise every time I am exposed to anyone outside my household, I do not enter anyone's home (not that I visit anyone but my parents and in-laws) and speak to them from a safe distance outside while masked up...

Sorry TNaicker, I didn't mean to come across as emotive, or to imply that you based your decisions on social media, that last paragraph was a general comment, not aimed at you.
Based on factual evidence, the vaccines do prevent infection to a certain extent, which is what I was trying to say. They are not merely therapeutic. Here is a link to some efficacy data if you'd like to have a look: www.healthdata.org/covid/covid-19-vaccine-efficacy-summary
All indications are that the vaccines are much more effective at preventing infections than non-pharmaceutical interventions (masks, social distancing etc.).
Again we should all be entitled to choose, I'm not trying to force my opinion on anyone, just pointing out facts as I see them.

No apologies necessary...so long as we are being civil in sharing our opinions, it can only enhance knowledge...
As an accountant, it is easy for me to be unemotive !! But not downplaying the reality of the virus - just not sure about "vaccines" being the solution...given the variants and the long term unknowns...
Tried link..not available...did you read article I posted yesterday about Isreal's experience?
www.sciencemag.org/news/2021/08/grim-war...oes-not-defeat-delta
And when I am "just pointing out facts as I see them", I know I am expressing an opinion which I think has been arrived at after analysing information from different sources...I'm fine with being wrong and hope I am too given that so many of my nearest and dearest could be recipients of negative coinsequences if I am correct...

Hi Frodo, you could do some research yourself, maybe have a look at some of those 61 studies mentioned in that article. I've attached a pdf of a presentation of another study, which includes Ivermectin, to this post.

I did see that article, it as a good indication of how long the vaccine is effective before needing a booster. The article does state that the vaccine is still effective at preventing hospitalisation or death. The "breakthrough" cases are concerning though.
Israel are however in the process of testing a potential cure that is showing very promising results, and will possibly become available by the end of the year, if I remember correctly. Hopefully it's as effective as the initial tests show, as that could put an end to all of this.
I fixed the link in my precious post, it should be working now.
I hope your family will be alright too. If all are fit and healthy I imagine their chances of serious side effects are minimal compared to the chance of contracting the virus and suffering serious ill-effects from that.
