Youthful exuberance. Its an opportunity for seasoned professionals to come in and guide and mentor the youth, which I find sadly lacking across most spheres in SA. He needs guidance, without killing the passion, which is quite evident in his calling.

I like him,he really wants to call the fancied horses home for us.
He just seems to be on the same level as the punters and is just as upset as us when a rank outsider wins.

IMO this is an extremely difficult profession and the young man is doing well , especially calling the straight mile when runners spread over the track.

He is extremely enthusiastic and will get better with age.

It takes all types from Smiley Moosa to Peter Osullivan and many in between.

SA has had some top callers over years and we have been spoilt.
Denman, Peters, Hawkins and Basel .
Plus Ali is a hard act to follow at any level.

Ernie Duffield brought the July into the homes of South Africans long before the days of TV.
His publication Duff's Turf Guide was a top class product and was eventually taken over by Computaform.

His son Peter Duffield followed in his footsteps and also penned a.column in the daily newspapers in Tvl.

The mediocrity of our current lot is evident when judged by the contributions by the Duffields over the years.
