There are 5 KZN entries in the two features. Prices are 40/1, 50/1, 75/1, 110/1 and 125/1. Should the MR 69 accept in the Woolavington, this would definitely be the sacrificial lamb for Captain's Ransom. If I were Paul Matchett I would be having a word with the chief stipe to ensure that the rules of the NHRA are strictly enforced. Pacemakers are not allowed in this country.

I don't think Paul Matchett would mind if they go a decent pace.

Hi, do you know the rule# that prohibits pacemakers?

This has the potential to be a superb race.
WAR vs Captains was good enough but if we add the Princess and possibly Netta, it's a cracker 😉

Imo .... both races will at least show where the biggest 3yr challenge ito the July wil come from -
In the DN, there is nothing (bar that one race in the Cape where I believe Malmoos was not himself) to say that the Cape runners are better than the Gauteng runners - so with that in mind, I think Second Base could be the value - but one also needs to bear in mind that he has had a hard season - so not sure that he can keep up that level of form; interesting here is The Gatekeeper, who surely needs to win this (or go very close) to get into the July field
In the Woolavington, there must be some doubt that Captain's Ransom gets the trip - the connections have opted for the Garden Province and not the July, but it could also be that the main reason for that decision is that due to her high rating, she would have had a tough task at the weights in the July - still only the race will show if she does get 2000; of course there are no stamina doubts for War of Athena, but she has had a break and for me I suspect the 3yr old fillies in Gauteng are not in the same class as the colts - so Princess Calla may yet make the other 2 run (did seem to get the trip in the Met)

Strange statement - are you completely ignoring the KZN Guineas? Mk's pride is a Gauteng runner yes? and definitely one of the best (Beating GTG deserves high recognition). I'm sure you'll point to the fact that a mile is a touch far for him and while I agree somewhat, he did have the extreme advantage of being drawn 1 around Greyville. Ruling out LB and STS who beat him doing handstands, even Kommetdieding and Russian Rock who ran off the track, had less than ideal paths and drawn 7 and 8 respectively still managed to beat him. The cape colts are superior. Going further, you can use the fact that Jet Dark, A cape 3yo beat RB in the LQP and a Gauteng 3yo runner, C22, was clearly not in the same league to RB, as shown in the drill hall.
Another point, STS comfortably disposed of Var's Vicky, another one of the top 3yo's in Gauteng, albeit at shorter distances (Beat Bohica who finished 2nd to the country's best sprinter in the Computaform sprint).
Tons of evidence really.

I'm of the opinion that in recent years the serious July runners use this race to achieve fitness and don't play their cards fully here. I'd be avoiding this race betting wise and rather hoping that it leads to better value on some horses heading to the July.

I'm more in the camp of Sealegs than that of MoMF - I do not believe that anything can be learnt from the KZN Guineas or the LQP - MK's Pride for me does not get 1600 - and ito Jet Dark, I think he won the LQP due to the older horses not being 100% fit and being prepared for the Met - so I can't find the 'tons of evidence' - and grasping at a sprinter like Var's Vicky to support a theory, is neither here nor there imo - would be the first to admit that I was wrong if the July provides the evidence
