Well done to the connections - imo the other jocks let him get away too easily - all believing the horse would come back to them - so for me, not really a case of well ridden - rather poor judgement by the other guys.
Ito ratings - can't really fault the handicapper - the horse just improved out of sight - sadly I think he will now be rated 100 + and not win another race

His previous win will reveal how the shrewd saw his Drum Star price as value. Someone said horses don’t run in computers and calculators but on grass. Form students can pay too much emphasis on weights.
This may just be a good horse. I would drop his name into the July hat.

In all 30 years of punting I have never placed much emphasis on handicapping. Those who live by the system would have had you believe that Savannah Storm was carrying 70kg !!! Under sufference....
My response to these “millionaires” is Show Me The Money.
99% of punters will die in the red.
Weight stops trains yes, but there are too many variables in racing.
I may be convinced to start believing if handicappers start using pace, race times, distance travelled in a race, track bias etc in their assessments.

To each his own - yes 99% of punters will die in the red - imo the main reason is, that they do NOT place enough emphasis on handicapping - of course exceptions do happen and even 'clever' punters will also die in the red - there are just too many variables and luck plays it part - take a look a Muzi's suggested P6 perm in the Citizen - he tipped a winning perm for R800 or so - but he banked Var's Vicky before even knowing that True to Life would be scratched - and he included the scratched runners in the Oak Trial and by fluke the winner (which he had not included in his perm) narrowly started Tote Favorite - then 2 short-head decisions also went is way (where he did not have the 2nd horse in his perm)
Going back to Savannah Storm - if one analyzes his last two runs - in his penultimate he beat Fast Draw by just more than 2 lengths - Fast Draw I think may die a Maiden; in his last run (yes he did beat subsequent winner Puerto Manzano) - he beat 3 yr old Have a Go Jo by just more than 3 lengths (receiving 4 kgs from that one) - and Have a Go Jo finished unplaced in his next two starts - so hardly inspiring form - anyway he won and that's that - let's see how he goes form here

Frodo, the previous win for Savannah Storm, were you not amazed as to the way he won? Never mind the class.

Hi Mac - can't really recall that race - that's probably why I had 8 runners in the P6 on Saturday but left him out (ouch
) - and I agree that watching races should be part of form study - anyway one has to be impressed in the manner he dug down on Saturday, so while he clearly has some class, for me I need to see him repeat the performance
