Everyone still sleeping ? Let's put Thursday behind us - thoughts on a nice challenging card:
R2: First timers Al Qaasim (steels ?) and Sea Virescent finding betting support in what seems a tricky opening leg to the BP; Battle Force looks best of the raced runners - but Khumalo has seemingly deserted him in favor of Sea Virescent; Proficient looks the value to make the trifecta and quartet pay; any track bias down the straight to be more clear after the first 2 races, where a lot of fancied runners are drawn towards the stand side
R3: Spice Market has the form, but a wide draw, which may give Lucy Belle the edge; these 2 stand out a bit for me of the raced runners, as Right Choice imo has been running against weaker; Mirren set to improve on her debut and should get closer to Spice Market; Ideal Jet finding betting support, so could be worth including
R4: Interesting opening leg of the P6; of the 2 Tarry runners, my preference is for Ecstatic Green, who should now be looking for this trip and perhaps further; Caralluma's best run was in the soft at Greyville - she did beat Due Diligence easily that time, but I think the de Kock filly has plenty of improvement to come; the other de Kock inmate Louis Gem ran way above her rating last time and could upset them all from pole position
R5: Cracking race for 125k  Malmoos has been very impressive to date, but only the stable will know what the expectations are; Murray is sticking with Al Muhtana, but Ferraris has done everything right on Malmoos so far, so it could be that Murray did not have first choice; Forever Mine obviously also still unbeaten, but looking at riding arrangements, may be held by the other two - although Zackey has had plenty of success for the Mauritzfontein connections; looks a de Kock benefit, while best roughie could be Catch Twenty Two - easily held my Al Muthana over 1160m, but may be much better this trip and could be the fly in the ointment
R6: Sales race, where the horse running 2nd will earn more than the gross stake of the Graham Beck; for owners, these are the type of races to target if you are eyeing a return of investment; War of Athena a stand-out on form, and will have to find a lot of trouble from the draw to get beat; the other filly Afternoon Tea best in of the others and from a nice draw, should run in the money; MK's Pride may still be on the up, and with Somasonic looks to be the only others in the race
R7: Main event, and a proper handicap; the 2 Tarry runners at the top of the boards said to be still 'prepping' for the Summer Cup - although Tierra del Fuego has put up good work; for me, one probably needs that dartboard and quite a few darts; Crown Towers good last win in KZN, but probably better over further; Astrix in good form, but will need some luck from that draw; Riverstown in form and probably the safest choice when looking for a floater; Victoria Paige ran less than a length behind Summer Pudding in the Fillies Guineas over this track and trip - so definite contender
R8: Yellow-wood Handicap - and very competitive; Heart Stwings is my first choice; should be on top of the boards imo, as she should hold Dance Class on previous form; Keep Smiling set to improve this distance, while stable mate Invincible may prefer a shorter trip - same applies to KZN visitor Master Keys; Tahitian Orama looks well in and could prove the value
R9: Really fancied Bohica - but thumbs up to the stable for taking him out if he is not ready to rumble; Bold Ransom for me rates the one to beat now - slight worry about the inside draw; Captain Hindsight a 1000m specialist - MR has gone up, but should still give a lot of cheek; not sure about Gallic Princess; seems better over 1200 and rating has also shot up - despite her last win being on the Poly
R10: Sworder Street all the rage - and the Peter stable sure can pick those cheapies; I do think he will have his work cut out to give the more experienced Odd Rob 2kgs and a beating; most of the others can't be discounted altogether; especially Shenanigans, who could run better at this track
Enjoy
