bayern wrote: R1) Gainsford, if he reproduces the debut effort to Ashford Castle, should be hard to beat.

R2) Arctic Sky, the softer going could assist this horse and she could run them down late in the piece. Two fair efforts in yielding underfoot conditions.

R9) Winter's Awakening, trotted in by 6 lengths when winning it's maiden in soft conditions. Wasn't disgraced first time out the maidens. Will probably track the apprentice and Chilly Winter who are drawn wide and will probably commit due to the draw and the allowance.

Very interesting Bayern.Your picks in races 2 and 9 both sired by What A Winter. Is he known for producing soft ground performers?

I honestly don't know the answer to that sir, as long as they win, that's all that matters. Honestly with the weather and underfoot conditions being what they are, as punters, we could be on to a hiding to nothing. Have an each way go on (R4) Retro Effect, appears to be a mud-lark.

Lovely sunny day but I ageee a tricky card and bankers hard to find.
race 1 Ticket to Ride my first choice, but gainsford, Mr frostie and Tracker Jacker all good runs in KZN and could win. A couple of first timers to consider as well as the reserve runners that now get in. Domeyer has jumped off fort Red to ride Red Lark.
race 2 Stuck on You first choice, but again improvers and first timers to consider.Perfect Princess the main danger.
Race 3 Twicethequality good debut and again cracks a good draw- she’ the one to beat.Ruby Rhythm, scented Mistress and Swazi Queen all have claims.
Race 4 Open race. Anze Lazio, Melliora and Sockeroo my shortlist but anything can win.
Race 5 On Captains Side my first choice. pippilangkous with low weight a threat. A few others with chances.
race 6 Open race. Sonic Boom good winner last time and my pick to win again. Stable jockey on captain’s flo so must be respected. Fours a crowd well in at the weights. Quite a few others with chances.
race 7 Helen’s Ideal badly in need of last run and will be a lot better today. Probably still needs this run to reach her peak, but is well weighted and could surprise. elusive Trader is a top sprinter and should be right there. green jacket and Savea consistent and should be in the mix. worlds Your Oyster is bred for 2400m but seems to relish sprinting and is still on the up.
race 8 Open handicap. Secret Depths good comeback run over the sprint and although better over 1600m I think has a decent ew chance from a good draw and Corne now knows her well and gets the best out of her. Gimmeex3 good from and should go close. May fern terrible recent form but was competitive before the break.
race 9 very open. grey Princess also decent sprint and will be better today but she is better further so perhaps a place chance.Chilly Winter well weighted with the 4kg claim, but a wide draw.Winter’s awakening consistent form and should fight it out. many with chances.

SA racing is in the doldrums right now. If it's not one thing, it's another - the other day the ambulance siren confused everyone, then they were waiting for the ambulance the next time, now technical issues - what next?
