It might be an inconvenience but hats off to GC and Phumelela to try and keep racing going under these difficult circumstances.

I'm not sure ...so is drinking alcohol after 6pm a signal for the virus to attack? If I get blind drunk at 10 am is the virus asleep? I just don't get it ... It would make far far more sense to place an immediate temporary ban on the sale of cigarettes - as an ex smoker who gave up many times I bear testament that your respiratory system starts to clear up a day after you quit..(but the damage to lungs sometimes never gets restored)

I think the reasoning behind the alcohol ban is; if people drink too much they become irresponsible. Generally most people can only go for drinks, in public places, after work. So if you limit the drinking period, you limit irresponsibility in public places.

Have not had a drink this year so personally I have not been affected by this ban - I just feel that there is zero proof that drinking causes the spread of this virus or any virus - BUT there is proof that smoking does make you more vulnerable - I went to a funeral at an apostolic church a few weeks ago and i was "touched" (hand shakes) so many times after that service by strangers - I have never been touched so many times in any bar in my life- I don't buy into ridiculous unproven ideas that are created just because there is no real way to prevent the spread unless ALL humans stay in their own houses without any contact with the outside world - From experience in bars where there is a cutoff - found people actually drank far more irresponsibly as they would try to cram in as many rounds as possible before last rounds are called...

Its true Mr H
The drink rules make no sense?
The trend has become for the clients to order a few specials at ten to six and sit with half a dozen drinks on the table to eight.
Plus as mentioned the drinks laws have nothing to do with the magnitude of the massive challenges that face us.
Hope we can ALL be talking racing and sport in a few months time when hopefully the planet is back to normal.

ABC guys, I’m in this business, take this COVID-19 seriously, this is a serious virus which is mutating and nobody knows yet whether or not it stays and hides in the body after you have been treated and tested negative and then resurfaces. What is known is that it can kill you.
For those who smoke, this is the time to stop, and take the conservative approach when going into public places rather than the attitude of I will never get it or if I do it will be easy to get over. Rather go the preventative route and try your best not to acquire it.

Don’t think it has anything to do with alcohol per se. (although not a bad idea to drink much less - the less alcohol consumed, the healthier you will be)
It is to encourage strict social distancing, if people can’t drink at a place , they will go home
Prepare and plan to stay at home as much as possible.
Don’t go to any more social or public gatherings. No parties or braais.
This is a virus against which we don’t have immunity – it must be built up until we have a herd immunity
It is also a virus that can live on various surfaces for as long as 72 hours
Before you feel unwell, you can start infecting others.

.....not only the drink but the need to socialize at a venue serving drink is what should be avoided....the more people drink the more they have less responsibility.....FFS bite the bullet and drink at home....BTW it was more woman I came across on the subject about complaining about the ban than men....one thick b!tch got especially uppity when I announced that there was a shortage of alcohol(meaning ethanol or industrial grade for sanitizing)....she freaked and said that they stop serving booze in pubs now you gonna battle to get it at the bottle store....this is worse than limiting the buying of toilet paper.....

Yip - rule is aimed at 'social distancing' imo - and not serving alcohol after 18:00 encourages that - nothing to do with the 'dangers of alcohol' imo ; what is known about it imo is not our biggest problem - and the theory is that 'social distancing' will go a long way ito containing it - but the bigger concern (as oscar states) is the possibility that all the experts do not really know if it mutates, etc - so even though we may beat it this time around, what about next time it surfaces .....
What is also interesting is what would have happened if it struck 20 years ago - no social media, limited distribution of information, so many more people would be affected and more deaths - but considerable less panic .....
