Coronavirus : Been There, Done That?
5 years 2 months ago
The more I read about this condition the more I suspect I may already have had it :
In the last week of January this year I contracted 'the flu'.
It was the worst example of flu I can recall in my lifetime.
My symptoms exactly matched those of the coronavirus that I have subsequently seen published in recent weeks. What has made me even more suspicious is that a family member - whose birthday we had attended in January - had recently spent some time in China although I feel the timeframe is a little suspect for the virus to have survived that long.
I did not see a doctor but was 'man down' for fully 8 days. In the early phases I struggled to contain a raging fever which persisted for about 4 days before it eventually broke. The overall condition lasted about 12 days before I felt reasonably well again.
As I work from home it was easy to rest up without interacting with other people. The week after I fell ill my partner went through the same experience although she recovered a lot faster than I did.
Just wondering.

Sounds like man-flu.
But you won’t know until you see a Dr.

Over the festive in Scotland, we caught very bad coughs in last few days ( i actually broke a rib) and only feeling better over the last few weeks.
We went for a few Chinese meals in the last week before getting on the plane.
Dear Mary : do you think we had the virus? Plus is it safe to go do restaurants or get take aways?

For days I have been wondering. Early feb I was sick, all symptoms that I read up on,I had the worst fever I had in my life. And for a week i daily went on a nebulisor.Throat sore etc. The worst session I ever had in my life. I also wonder if South Africa had it the same time as others.

only a blood test for antibodies against the virus will tell if you had exposure - think I read somewhere that it is available but not here yet

If it was that virus, then I see it as a positive...you all recovered. Which is good news!

I posted this a couple of months ago when the whole Covid 'thing' started.
The incident had an interesting post script just this week :
I was chatting to my trainer's wife this week and she mentioned that she, like me, thought she had contracted the virus or something uncannily similar earlier in the year. It was around about the same period as I recall having become very ill with what I thought was seasonal flu but which I later began to suspect might have been Covid19.
As a side line the yard runs a very successful small business catering to tourists wishing to do out rides on Noordhoek beach. In January they took a booking from a group of Chinese visitors. It was only weeks later that she recalled that two of the riders coughed and spluttered intermittently throughout the entire afternoon.
I visited the yard during that period and spent a good time socialising with my trainer and his wife after viewing my horse.
The sequenece of events and my subsequent illness makes a credible case for how I might have contracted Covid or something remarkably similar.

Sounds about right ... would be great if you could get tested for anti-bodies.
