The National Horseracing Authority confirms that the Courier vehicle delivering the specimens that were collected from horses that participated at the Scottsville Race meeting on Sunday, 15 December 2019 and was en route to the NHA Laboratory, has been hijacked in Johannesburg.
All the freight that was contained in the Courier vehicle, including the specimen boxes, was stolen.
The incident has been reported to the South African Police Services.

"Extracting the urine" sounds more politically correct.

Guess the NHRA failed to implement their preventative measures. Guess they should open the file again.
ass hats
On 9 July 2018 the NHA issued a Press Release relating to the theft of sealed post-race specimen boxes containing specimens which were collected at the Vodacom Durban July 2018 race day at Greyville Racecourse.
These boxes were taken from the courier company at gunpoint by unknown assailants. Some of these specimen boxes were later noticed by a member of the public where these were abandoned in a nature reserve in Durban.
2018 Vodacom Durban July winner, Do It Again
The police subsequently took three of the boxes into evidence. The boxes that were found had all of the 20 specimens intact. Some were Original specimens and some were Reference specimens.
Original specimens are routinely analysed at the NHA Laboratory. The corresponding, identical Reference specimens are normally kept intact as a mechanism for independent analysis at an alternative racing laboratory. These boxes were subsequently released by the police to the NHA and they were then forwarded to the NHA Laboratory.
Whilst all the boxes were physically forced open, all of the contained specimens were still intact. All of the bottles and the bottle seals were also intact. This was a significant observation as it showed that none of the specimens were tampered with at any stage. It was therefore still possible to analyse these intact specimens.
Although these urine specimens were not ideally stored whilst the police investigation was ongoing, the NHA Laboratory however still followed normal practice and screened the specimens for the presence of any prohibited substances. The deterioration of these specimens was not ideal as they were compromised by the abovementioned incident. However, employing the highly sensitive screening instrumentation of the NHA Laboratory, no prohibited substances were in fact detected in these specimens.
Further preventative measures have been instituted with immediate effect in order to ensure that similar incidences do not occur in the future.
This matter has now been finalised and the file has been closed.

5 years 5 months ago....this was discussed on this forum when July samples went missing......simple have 2 sets of samples sent by 2 different courier and routes.....these courier robberies may not have anything to do with the samples......jacking couriers has become a national past time......therefore one has to spread the risks..... .JayPeg19 wrote: Sylvester is one of the cleverest guys on this forum. I am one of the dumbest members on the forum but would like to reply to Laptop Lady's 19th offspring if I may.
The reason for taking more than one sample is to ensure fairness and confirm findings. The reason for courier services transporting samples I would think is to ensure the quickest and safest manner to get the racing samples to the NHA lab. Security is now becoming a major problem so let me ask the obvious question. Why are samples ( A & B ) being couriered by the same vehicle? In this day and age there are literally hundreds of options that could be considered for couriering samples.
The incompetents should add this suggestion to their clearly unsecure "preventative measures" instituted after the last sanction avoiding move.

With piss seemingly being on a par with Cash and Gold these days, they should pay CIT vans to take it along with the Cash in transit currently being done from the course.

Take two samples. One goes with the courier and the other sample stays in a "safe" fridge in Natal. The second sample is thrown away when the first result is received or kept as a back up if needed. Very difficult !

Without two samples you have no ability to prosecute any infringement. Imagine telling a trainer that his horse failed but he cannot have the result verified because sample B was stolen. So I ask again what do you clever paralegals suggest?
Once you fella's have chewed through that then let me ask you what an acceptable loss is in the context of SA where the likelihood a vehicle is hijacked or stolen is fairly high? If only two such incidences have taken place in 17 months is that within the allowable threshold for such loss. If not please then explain how one gets 100% certainty that samples will be delivered and tested and have a provable chain of custody, and this is done in a manner which is cost effective.
Another incompetent.
