That your best response Sylvester? Sounds like a cop out to me. For a guy who is 100% certain of his opinion's you sure disappoint playing back an NHA rule book. At the very least I would have expected you to rewrite the book and send me the rewritten sections which point to your superior wisdom. Anyway please answer my questions above.

Please can i ask something.... Now off the bat, im not getting involved in this discussion, i would just like to ask a honest question... You mention without 2 samples you have no ability to prosecute any infringement, how would this be any different to having 2 samples coming from 1 sample split in 2 as they mention in the rules is something that they do. How would this now hold bearing as it still comes from the same sample. Thanks in advance.

Karma, herewith the basic info, to the best of my knowledge -
1)When the sample is taken, or is immediately divided onto 2 containers. These are sealed, info recorded etc.
2)Should a horse test positive, then the Trainer or Owner has the right to send the 2nd sample to any other lab in the world, for a 2nd opinion, at the expense of the Trainer or Owner.
3)This is why there are 2 samples taken.
So, Jay Peg makes sense - if you keep one sample back and send the other and it is hijacked, the process is still broken.

Samples are taken at every meeting, from every course in SA and have to be delivered to Turffontein. To now go to a higher level of Security etc, will cost a hell of a lot extra, imho.

Sorry, Karma, I never answered correctly -
The reason for the 2 samples is the whole security chain and the procedures etc. The second sample becomes autonomous, in terms of potential or accidental contamination, because its seal is not broken, ensuring that it was not tampered with etc. when/if it goes to the next lab.

...or, in the event of a sample going missing, splitting the remaining sample into 2?

I'm not sure why NHA rules need to be changed. The issue here relates to criminal activity outside of the realms of the NHA influence. What can be done is eliminate the certainty of all evidence being compromised thru hijacking by splitting the content when transporting them. Sure it will incur costs but clearly in our current environment it needs to be done.

....we mostly like to take the p!ss out of the NHRA and I have had a few stabs at them on some issues.....however they are very effective in trying to prevent almost every contingency in not being able to carry out specimen screening to a point where they even have brand new imported back up analytical equipment stored off site at their contracted equipment suppliers.. ...with this said.... I'm sure they will also soon make a plan to have a contingency in place for the logistics in having correct amount of samples to screen....no matter the extra cost .....
