De Melo must give up riding..he is totally screwing punters with his bad judge of pace...from ODE TO SILVAS MAGIC when buckets of money was down
DK should find another capable jock for his expensive horses if he wants to fire this summer season

Many, many years ago I clerked for a new Cape Town bookmaker for a short period of time for some fun. I would never have guessed that I would eventually end up with his right but that's a story for another time.....
In those days the ring was a hive of activity and good humour. It really was a game. One of the favourite expressions that you would hear when we were facing a potentially costly race (if a short priced favourite won) was :
Don't worry - it's got to beat the 'K Factor'!
For the unitiated the 'K' referred to three trainers : Kannemeyer, Kotzen & Kruyer. Some nerdish, statistically minded bookmakers' clerk had calculated that these three sent out the highest percentage of short priced favourites that got beaten. Whether it was true or not I don't know but somehow it stuck!
I later made mention of this totally unscientific and unsubstantiated theory in a Sporting Post letter which prompted a pained response from (God bless him) Dean Kannemeyer.
Perhaps the 'K Factor' has found its way to Durban? Lol.
