Going to be interesting to see how the Cape raiders fair. First raiders since the MR adjustment which should, in theory, make it more difficult for them to win.
Should be more competitive racing.

Nadine’s trainer Comments and selections
RACE 1 :
1st four selections
1 / 4 / 11 / 8
• ALAN GREEFF - Number 4 - BLACK KNIGHT : He has done his best on Poly, but does enjoy 1000m and can place.
• GAVIN SMITH - Number 5 - CROISADE DE VERITE : He is a speedy type and can be thereabouts.
JACQUES STRYDOM - Numbers 2 and 6 - TORAN THE TIGER & LORD MILBERRY : Toran the Tiger will need further. Lord Milberry will need the experience.
GRANT PADDOCK - Number 3 - VARSITY BOURBON : He has his first run for the yard off a lengthy break and could need it.
RACE 2 :
1st four selections
1 / 7 / 6 / 2
• GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 5, 6 and 8 - BENEVOLENCE, GIVEMETHETHUMBSUP & TRIAL RUN : Benevolence has his first local run on turf and improvement is expected. Givemethethumbsup is improving all the time, as is Trial Run and both can be knocking.
• ALAN GREEFF - Number 7 - GIACOMO : He has improved well with the gelding, is working well back home and will run well.
MONTANA TURNER - Number 11 - MY FRIEND : I think she will prefer the turf, all her starts in PE have been over shorter and on the Poly. Taking on the boys is not ideal, but I am hoping for improvement.
SHARON KOTZEN - Numbers 2 and 9 - SHOOTING STAR & LUMOS : Shooting Star ran very well on local debut and will be competitive. Lumos is still learning to race, he is strengthening up and can improve.
TARA LAING - Number 3 - BREVIN : He needed his last, it is a tough field but he can run into the quartets.
DUNCAN MCKENZIE - Number 4 - DIVINE LAW : He tries the turf and further, which his pedigree does suggest he will enjoy. He can run well.
RACE 3 :
1st four selections
6 / 7 / 14 / 8
• SHARON KOTZEN - Numbers 7 and 14 - MISTRESS OF MEANS & STORM DANCE : Both have fair form. Mistress of Mean is drawn wide, but she’s a nice big filly and always tries. Storm Dance I growing, which could be an issue, but she’s drawn well and improved in her last. Both are nice fillies.
• TARA LAING - Number 8 - SPEECHMAKER : She is trying further, she is bred to go further, it is a competitive race but she is not without chance.
ALAN GREEFF - Number 9 - CALANDRA : She has a place chance.
MONTANA TURNER - Number 12 - PROMSING OF ALL : She has strengthened up and her work has improved with the blinkers which she will be trying for the first time.
DUNCAN MCKENZIE - Number 2 - AFRICAN DIAMOND : She finished very well in her last and will run well again.
GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 3, 10, 11 and 15 - GINGER ROCK, NEVERTHELESS, IM GLOBAL & XTREME AIR : Hoping for improvement from Ginger Rock and Xtreme Air. Nevertheless is always thereabouts. Improvement is expected from Im Global.
JACQUES STRYDOM - Number 4 - MONTREUX : Hoping for improvement.
RACE 4 :
1st four selections
1 / 4 / 3 / 6
• ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 1, 3, 4 and 10 - FOREHAND, DOUBLE BLACK, RINGS AND THINGS & ALPHABET STREET : Forehand has a winning chance. Double Black and Rings and Things will run very competitive races and will be there. Alphabet Street won well in her last but is up in class.
• GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 6 and 7 - GET YOUR GROVE ON & CLOUD ATLAS : Getyourgroveon ran a good race on local debut and should be knocking. Cloud Atlas enjoys track and trip.
SHARON KOTZEN - Number 9 - KENTUCKY BLUE : She won well on local debut in her last and can hopefully hold form up in the ratings.
TARA LAING - Numbers 2, 5 and 8 - SASSY LADY, WESTON & FLY THOUGHT : Sassy Lady and Weston have dropped in the ratings and can run into quartets. This is not Fly Thought’s ideal distance, she would be better over a bit further, but she is not without chance at the win.
RACE 5 :
1st four selections
3 / 9 / 16 / 12
•ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 1, 2, 3 and 8 - DYNASTY’S BOY, STOPTHINKINGOFME, SUN UP & SPIN MASTER : Dynasty’s Boy can place. Stopthinkingofme is always in the mix and should be so again. Sun Up won her last well, she can follow up. Hoping for improvement from Spin Master.
• TARA LAING - Numbers 9 and 14 - CAPTAIN MAROONED & BEETHOVEN : Captain Marooned has been quite consistent of late and does have a winning chance. Beethoven’s work at home is not bad and he can run into the placings.
MONTANA TURNER - Number 13 - SARK : He has his first run out of the maidens. He could need it and is up in class. His goal is a mile on the 2nd September, but he is well and could pop up to place.
GRANT PADDOCK - Number 16 - ROCK THE COT : Put a line through his last, he prefers turf and has a chance here.
JACQUES STRYDOM - Numbers 4 and 12 - IT’S A GIRL & CHESTNUT WILD : It’s a Girl is working very well and could manage the back end of quartets, though she probably is at her best on Poly. Chestnut Wild was unlucky finding a bump late in his last and has a chance here.
GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 5, 7, 15 and 17 - FOUDING FATHER, POMACEOUS, EX NIHILO & TOMMY THE BUILDER : Founding Father is down in the ratings and has a money chance. Pomaceous should need this. Ex Nihilo improved in his last and further improvement is expected.
DUNCAN MCKENZIE - Number 6 - READY SET GO : She has not been far off in her recent starts which have been against stronger.
RACE 6 :
1st four selections
3 / 2 / 1 / 4
• ALAN GREEFF - Number 4 - ALDO : He will run well.
• TARA LAING - Number 6 - OMEGA ONSLAUGHT : Don’t leave him out of your exotics, he’s got a good chance.
GRANT PADDOCK - Number 5 - ALWAHSH : He has his second run after a lay off, always a concern, but he can be thereabouts.
RACE 7 :
1st four selections
4 / 5 / 1 / 15
• TARA LAING - Numbers 1 and 10 - RAVEN GIRL & ESTEEMAL : Raven Girl is drawn well and must have a good chance. Esteemal’s bad draw is going to make it tough for her but she has the class over this distance.
• ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 4, 6, 9, 12, 14 and 15 - MERYL, DELIA’S DELIGHT, STUDIO BLUES, LOVE SUPREME, PERFECTPROPORTIONS & WOODSTOCK FAIRY : It is a very competitive field. Based on her very good run over shorter, Meryl should be in with a shout. Delia’s Delight tries the trip for the first time but she is a horse that always tries and she could earn. Studio Blues was a well deserved winner in her last and super consistent is not without chance. Love Supreme can place. Perfectproportions is up in class but always thereabouts, she could place. Woodstock Fairy is also up in class, but she won in fine style on local debut and can up her game.
SHARON KOTZEN - Numbers 8 and 11 - JUST CHAOS & SEEKING WISDOM : Just Chaos tries the blinkers to aid her concentration. Seeking Wisdom is as honest as they come, but does have a wide draw against her. They can both be competitive in a very open field, it’s going to be an interesting race.
CANDICE BASS-ROBINSON - Number 13 - PEARL JAM : She is a light filly and I’m just hoping the travel doesn’t take too much out of her. She tries hard, will enjoy the distance and is working well, it is a very open field and she takes her chances.
JACQUES STRYDOM - Number 3 - ONESIE : Joint top weight in a very competitive field, I’m just hoping for a good run.
RACE 8 :
1st four selections
1 / 5 / 4 / 2
• VAUGHAN MARSHALL - Number 1 - THE SILVA FOX : He could will find the 2000m short and does have top weight to shoulder, but he is not without chance.
•CANDICE BASS-ROBINSON - Number 5 - BIG FISH : Last time he was in PE he left the maidens and he does enjoy the longer run in. He is a horse that takes a while to build up and unwind and that has seen him struggle back in Cape Town with the shorter home straights. He was a bit awkward on the right hand bend, but hopefully be better on it on his second attempt and he does have an each way chance.
GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 6 and 7 - BRIGADOON ELY & TOM ‘N JERRY : Brigadoon Ely is improving as he matures and should be thereabouts. Tom ‘n Jerry enjoys track and trip and has a quartet chance.
GRANT PADDOCK - Number 8 - SABASTIAN : He could run well, but the second run after the lay off is a concern.
SHARON KOTZEN - Numbers 9 and 10 - WOOD FOR THE TREES & GREAT CRUSADE : Great Crusade needed his last and can improve. Wood for the Trees has been disappointing, he could enjoy being back on grass and is drawn well so we are hoping for better from him.
ALAN GREEFF - Number 2 - EPIC STORM : She has done well since her relocation to PE and should be in the mix.
TARA LAING - Number 3 - LINE EDITOR : He has been very disappointing, but perhaps the racing tactics in his last didn’t suit, he’ll be ridden differently this time and could run into quartets.
JACQUES STRYDOM - Numbers 4 and 11 - MAHIR & OMAHA TRIBE : Ignore Mahir’s last, he can be there. Omaha Tribe will enjoy being back over the longer home straight and could earn.

VARSITY BOURBON (WIN)
GRANT PADDOCK - Number 3 - VARSITY BOURBON : He has his first run for the yard off a lengthy break and could need it.
I THINK ABOUT 2/3 HORSES WON THIS MONTH,THAT CAME OF A LENGTHY LAY OFF

JACQUES STRYDOM - Numbers 2 and 6 - TORAN THE TIGER & LORD MILBERRY : Toran the Tiger will need further. Lord Milberry will need the experience.
Lord Milberry 25-1 into 7-2..
If it wins I wonder if anyone will cry foul? When it happened with Carlita, Greef had a lot of bad press.

Totally different scenario.
For starters Toran The Tiger is scratched and in no way did Strydom say it was the better of the two.
Greeff on the other hand said Carlita was not the right one from the yard and gave no one any confidence that it was going to win.
He put the stable second jock on Carlita and talked up his stable companion so he could get a better price on Carlita.
He deceived the public on purpose for his own gain and that's why he gets so much flak from posters.
I personally will never believe what he has to say as you never know when he's going to try something like that again.
The word greeffed is going down in the book of horse racing terminology.

AFRICAN DIAMOND
Penultimate run over the 1400m FVR
Draw 11-12
Finished 7th only 3.30lengths of the winner Silken thread
(Handy weak finish)
The last time AFRICAN DIAMOND went over C/D was 4run back
Finished second 1.25lengths of the winner
(Led 250m-outrun late)
Same draw as today and the favorite runners are drawn wide
Can definitely finish in the top4
